A St. Charles store refused to sell a gun to a man who now is being charged with aggravated stalking, police said.

St. Louis County Police said Warren Simms recently tried to buy a gun at Bass Pro Shops in St. Charles and created a disturbance when employees at the store would not sell him the weapon.

Simms, of the 1100 block of Laredo Avenue in Spanish Lake, was charged Monday with aggravated stalking, and police said he’s threatened to kill a woman and his brother.

Simms now is hospitalized in Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur for mental health issues, according to a court document. Bail also has been set at $100,000 for Simms.

St. Louis County Police said Simms and the victim were acquaintances who reconnected on Facebook, but Simms began harassing the woman by calling her excessively and leaving disturbing voicemails.

Police said Simms’ “conduct became bizarre and disturbing, so the victim cut off all ties and told (Simms) not to contact her.”

The woman got a restraining order against Simms on May 17.Simms called the woman 23 times on May 13, called her eight times and came by her workplace May 14, called her 24 times on May 20 and called her five times in 22 minutes on Friday, according to a court document.

Police said he threatened to kill himself, the woman and his brother, who dated the woman 30 years ago.
