One Month Before Wedding, Man Bloodies Fiancé's Nose in St. Charles

St. Charles County Police say Robert Devine assaulted his fiancé by pushing her to the ground, hitting her in the face and shutting a door on her leg, which had recently been through a knee-replacement surgery.

A man faces domestic abuse charges after St. Charles County deputies said he bloodied his fiance’s nose on May 10.

Robert G. Devine, 55, of the 3300 block of Cross Keys Drive in Florissant, was charged Friday with third-degree domestic assault.

A St. Charles County Sheriff’s deputy said Devine was arguing with his fiancé in the 3500 block of Ipswich Lane in St. Charles County when he pushed her into a wall and a desk, cutting her arm. He then struck her in the face, giving her a bloody nose, the deputy reported.

The woman fell and tried to get up, but Devine pushed her back down and pulled her hair, according to a report. He then shut a door on her left foot, causing pain in her recently replaced knee.

The deputy reported that Devine taunted, “Go ahead and call police. I will hurt you worse than before. You’re all alone here and no one will believe you.”

The woman said she did not call the police because she was afraid of retaliation.

The deputy said the two were engaged to be married next month.

Bond was set at $5,000, cash only, and Devine is to have no contact with the victim.
