ReplyBy the way, we are talking about a $500+ per citizen cost for this city hall 'deal', but forget about the $1,300+ TIF bonds that the council was just threatened with another lawsuit if we don't pay up on that deal - put together by none other than Mr. "$50k" Martin, and former Mayor "you can't recall me, I am all about enforcing the Charter" Perrillo.

ReplyPerhaps because there are no union sheep here and your assumption was just plain incorrect no matter how many times you repeat it in the hopes it will become magically true?
You are correct that nobody is forced to work at walmart, but for most every person that does, *I* as a taxpayer, am forced to provide healthcare and disability benefits to those walmart employees because they don't have a union to prevent the taxpayers from subsidizing otherwise competitive and living wage benefits other more well respected locally owned employers offer.
You really don't understand the true economics of low prices, race to the bottom, predatory business practices (including abuse of TIFs by gullible local governments) that are the hallmark of Walmart's business model.
I will say it again and please read it slowly so your lips can keep up - Walmart will not bring in one additional dollar into the Ellisville economy. Do you even understandhow the amount of the $12 million TIF?

ReplySeconded, @Disgusted.
I will never understand why ushering out businesses with local ownership and replacing them with big box multi-national general retailer businesses (meaning they intend to compete with *all* local existing businesses) and take local dollars out of the local economy while siphoning tax dollars to private 'developers' is a good thing for either the tax payers or the local economy. -

BJC Healthcare. Although no walmart employees will be able to afford health insurance that will cover care at any BJC facility or their doctors.

ReplyI can give you $12 million reasons why, for starters.
Walmart will not bring in one more dollar to Ellisville.
It will not make Ellisville a 'destination'. They will suck sales from businesses around them. That us how they decide where to put stores.
And lastly, walmart is not a charity. What makes you think they will be a positive contribution to this community when all the evidence says otherwise?
Are you a walmart shill? Do you work for them?
Or perhaps Casey Communications?
Your postings show a surprising ignorance of the regular Ellisville posters here, regardless of the side of the issue.Astroturf much? Project much? Maybe it is you that lacks community roots.
I am a District 1 resident, homeowner, and my kids are in Rockwood schools.
You? What's your stake here? -

ReplyThe union of citizens defrauded of their rightful representation by Perrillo and Martin.
What confederacy of dunces do you represent?

Food Stamps and Medicaid. Oh, wait. Those provide basic food and healthcare for your average Walmart employees. Can't count them since they are walmart-related. Never mind.

Here is what the taxpayers of Virginia Beach had to say about that TIF-funded development area you are so enjoying:

Unfortunately, Ellisville is not even close to some sort of 'destination' for vacationers or when out-of-town travellers passing through the StL area like the Chesterfield valley corridor.
But nice try, little mike.
