Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer told the Greater St. Charles County Chamber that Republicans won't blink in requiring spending cuts in exchange for extending the debt limit.
During a visit to St. Charles County Tuesday, U.S. Representative Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-St. Elizabeth) predicted a "nasty" fight between conservatives and the President over spending cuts and extending the nation's debt ceiling in the weeks ahead. Luetkemeyer's visit to here marked the first time he's been in St. Charles County since he was sworn in on Jan. 3. Through redistricting, Luetkemeyer, a Miller County Republican, now represents St. Charles County for the first time. This is his third term in Congress; he formerly represented District 9, which used to include a wide swath of Mid-Missouri extending to the St. Charles County border. Are you expecting to see more or less in your paycheck this year? Do you think Congress blew it? Should there have been more spending cuts?
I don't know about you, but I'm not one of those folks worrying about the "tax increase for the rich" that was conceived in the fiscal cliff deal lawmakers finally approved on Day 2 of the new year. I'm not making $400,000 a year. Combined, my wife and I are nowhere near $450,000 a year. So, no worries. But for all the talk about "protecting the middle class," I'm apparently about to see a change in my take-home pay, thanks to the Jan. 2 deal that averted large across-the-board spending cuts and automatic reversal of some tax cuts. "Technically, income tax rates that were set to go up were actually left alone, except for individuals and couples earning more than $400,000 and $450,000 respectively," according to this Yahoo! On a personal note, as a Navy Vet and trusty Shellback, I don't appreciate his drunken sailor remark. It would be one thing for a Sailor, Soldier, Airman or Marine to say it. But out of the mouth of a chicken hawk, it's another story. Spend a couple months at sea without touching land when you're in your early 20s and see if you don't feel like a belt or two when you go ashore. more ›
