Police: Man Made Meth in St. Charles Extended Stay Hotel Room

Drug Task Force detectives said the lab was within 2,000 feet of a day care.

A St. Charles man faces criminal charges for making methamphetamine at an extended stay hotel, less than 2,000 feet from a daycare. Mark A. Gamache, 34, of St. Charles was charged Thursday with manufacturing methamphetamine within 2,000 feet of a daycare. St. Charles County Drug Task Force detectives said Gamache asked an informant to provide him with chemicals used to make meth, including pseudoephedrine, Coleman camp fuel and lithium batteries. He asked the informant to meet him on a parking lot at South Old Highway 94 and Town West Drive, a task force member said. Once the delivery was made, detectives arrested Gamache. Couple Arrested With Meth Chemicals, Crack and Marijuana

Police spotted said they began watching the man, a meth user, in a Bridgeton Walgreens parking lot, according to court documents.

A St. Charles man faces drug charges after an Oct. 2 traffic stop near Friedens and southbound Highway 94. James J. Vitale, 47, of the 100 block of Hastings Way in St. Charles, was charged Wednesday with possession of chemicals with intent to make a controlled substance, controlled substance possession and marijuana possession. A St. Charles County Drug Task Force detective reported that police spotted Vitale sitting in his truck in a Walgreen’s parking lot at 12345 St. Charles Rock Road in Bridgeton. Vitale was known as a methamphetamine user, according to the Drug Task Force report. Vitale soon was joined by a woman, and they drove into St. Charles. Drug Task Force Arrests Two St. Charles Residents on Meth Charges

Detectives said the two provided pseudoephedrine for a clandestine meth cook.

St. Charles County Drug Task Force members found methamphetamine and marijuana-related items and residue throughout a St. Charles home in the 3700 block of Bismark Drive. Teresa M. McConnell, 47, and Darryl Weseman, 52, both of the 3700 block of Bismark, both were charged Friday with intent to make methamphetamine and meth possession. Drug Task Force members searched the home Thursday, and a report indicates they also found empty pseudoephedrine blister packs and other meth ingredients in a vehicle at the residence. According to the task force report, Weseman and McConnell told detectives they sell or trade pseudoephedrine to a clandestine meth cook for cash or finished meth. Surveillance Helps Drug Task Force Net Meth Charges

Three St. Charles residents were charged with making methamphetamine.

A St. Charles County Drug Task Force surveillance mission resulted in drug charges against three St. Charles residents. Andy Franklin, 48, and Catherine Eberhardt, 52, both of the first block of Pam Avenue, both were charged Tuesday with two counts of manufacturing meth. David Branson, 52, of the first block of Overbrook Drive, was charged Wednesday with possession of chemicals with intent to make meth, meth possession and marijuana possession. Detectives said they saw Branson meet with Franklin Monday in the 2800 block of Elm Street. Task Force Busts Mobile Meth-Making Couple in St. Charles

The man told the St. Charles County Drug Task Force detectives he often makes his own meth in his car.

A couple was charged Thursday in St. Charles for making methamphetamine in the man’s car. Mark A. Smith, 26, of Elsberry, and Mary Melling, 24, of Moscow Mills, face charges of manufacturing and possessing meth. After a traffic stop at 2702 Droste Road in St. Charles Nov. 16, St. Charles County Drug Task Force detectives searched Smith’s car and found a baggie with meth residue and ingredients used to make meth, according to court documents. Detectives said in a report that Smith admitted to buying pseudoephedrine and using it to make meth. Smith said he often makes meth in his car. He said he made the drug himself to save money. Drug Task Force Arrests Three on Meth Charges

The arrests came while investigating possible meth labs in the 2400 block of Chesstal Street in St. Charles.

The St. Charles County Drug Task Force arrested three people May 2 who have been charged with making or attempting to make methamphetamine. They defendants are: According to a task force report, detectives were investigating possible meth labs in the 2400 block of Chesstal Street in St. Charles when a suspect spotted a detective and told others police were in the area. Three people got in a Ford F-250 truck and two women got in a car and left quickly. Detectives pulled over the F-250, with Teresa McConnell driving and passengers Shawn Moore and Conner. St. Charles County joins a four-county effort to require prescriptions for cold medications containing ephedrine and pseudoephedrine. Missouri is rated the largest meth producing state in the nation.

Officials in St. Charles County and three surrounding counties will seek to require a prescription for sales of cold medications with ephedrine or pseudoephedrine. Jefferson, Franklin and Lincoln counties also will seek to pass an identical law. Officials from all four counties joined together to announce the effort in a news conference Thursday afternoon at the St. Charles County Executive Building. The law will be presented as a health issue. If it passes, it will affect all municipalities within each of the counties. Counties and cities don't decide what schedule (schedule 1 are illegal, schedule 2-5 are controls) a drug is, that is left to federal our state laws.
