Take Two: Funding for Repairs to Parking Garage Again on Ballot

St. Charles voters failed to approve a bond issue for the $3.8 million in repairs to the city garage in November. Voters will see the matter again on the April 2013 ballot.

St. Charles voters will get another chance to vote on funding for upgrades to the city's aging parking structure.  Voters in November failed to approve $3.3 million in general obligation bonds to pay for structural repairs to the city parking garage located next to City Hall.  On Tuesday, the St. Charles City Council voted to put the matter back before voters on April 2. This time, voters will be asked to approve $3.8 million in general obligation bonds.  The estimated cost of the project is $3.67 million, which includes $2.9 million in structural repairs, $600,00 to replace the fire supression system, $144,000 for a private bus rental for the 8 months the garage will be closed, and $32,000 for a contract project manager. St. Charles Seeks $15.7 Million for New Fire Station, Public Works Facility, More

St. Charles will ask voters to approve issuing three propositions in general obligation bonds for a new fire station, public works building, and city parking garage repairs.

St. Charles voters will be asked in November to approve issuing $15.7 million in general obligation bonds this fall to pay for three big projects. St. Charles City Council voted on Tuesday to put the three propositions on the Nov. 6 ballot. Council members say the projects are necessary to complete and will be done even if residents fail to pass the $15.7 million in propositions.   The three propositions are:  City Administrator Michael Spurgeon said using general obligation bonds will allow the city to save $1 million during the 20-year life of the bonds. Should residents fail to approve the propositions, the city would seek a different financing method, which could cost more money in the long-term.  Spurgeon said the city is presenting …

Where to start, well first we have to go back and ask why the city council approved municipal bonds for the streets of St. Charles project knowing good and well that these projects were in waiting. St. Charles May Ask Voters to Approve Bonds for New Fire Station, More

City could borrow $7.8 million for new fleet maintenance facility, $4.1 for a new fire station and $3.3 million to repair the city parking garage.

St. Charles may ask voters in November to approve bond issues to pay for building a new fleet maintenance building, a new fire house and for repairs to the city parking garage.  Voters would vote on issuing bonds for three seperate projects individually, although the total borrowed would be about $15.7 million. The council in early August is expected to approve putting the three propositions on the November ballot. Proposition 1 would ask voters to approve borrowing $7.8 million for a fleet maintenance facility. Proposition 2 would approve borrowing $3.3 million for repairs to the city hall parking garage.
