Duchesne Pioneers Set for Wick Cup Hockey Championship Against Wentzville Holt

The Pioneer hockey team has a shot at becoming Duchesne High School's first-ever Mid-States High School Hockey League champion tonight.

The Duchesne High School hockey team has a chance to make school history Monday evening at Scottrade Center.  The Pioneers have a shot at becoming the high school's first-ever Mid-States High School Hockey League champion when they face-off against Wentzville Holt. The puck is set to drop in the Wickenheiser Cup championship game at 5:30 p.m. at Scottrade Center in downtown St. Louis.  If Duchesne's bracket history is any indicator, the game could come down to the wire. The Pioneers have advanced via a mini-game win in its previous two playoff series—against Fort Zumwalt West and Marquette—this playoff season.  Duchesne is led by one of the best one-two scoring punches in the St. Louis-area in a pair of senior fowards, Steve Kinnison and …

Two years ago Holt won the Wick when St. Charles teams made a sweep. Holt won the Wick and Francis Howell Centeral Beat CBC for the Challenge Cup Championship. A member of that FHC team Brendan Strauser will be awarded the Wickenheiser Scholarship Tonight between games. The area is well represented again this year. Congrats Duchesne, Holt and Brendan.   more ›

I love pumpkin pie as well and I think some cream cheese adds a great flavor. Maybe just about 3oz for a normal size pie, soften and mix in with all the pie filling ingredients.   more ›

@Nicole - I'm sorry, I didn't address cool-downs. Here's my two cents. Your heart rate is going to return to its resting state on its own. In my opinion it doesn't really need you to slow down your work out to accomplish that. I will say this though, if your workout consisted heavily of muscle training or if you performed your reps to exhaustion, make sure you stretch those muscles afterward. On …   more ›

Ask the Gardener: Will This Summer's Drought Affect Fall Planting?

Got a gardening question? Leave a question for our experts.

Ask the gardener is a column in which local readers send in questions about your garden, lawn, trees and more.  This week's question: Will the summer drought affect fall planting?  Jean Melton , manager at World Outdoor Emporium in Wentzville, answered the question: No, not necessarily, because if you're going to plant, then you're going to water, so the drought won't affect planting.  As long as the heat goes away and eventually cools down, like it should in the fall. As soon as it cools down, you can plant. If the ground is too dry, it may be more difficult to dig, so we recommend running a sprinkler the day before to make it easier.
