Prasino St. Charles opened to the public on Monday in the Streets of St. Charles development, located near the Interstate 70 and Fifth Street intersection.
Prasino St. Charles, the environmentally friendly restaurant that was announced to be coming to the Streets of St. Charles in January, is now open. Prasino, which is Greek for "green", focuses on locally-sourced ingredients and uses organic, all-natural, steroid- and hormone- free foods. More news on Prasino: The restaurant will be open for breakfast through dinner, serving up items like a roasted beet salad, short rib tacos, Wisconsin ribeye and sushi rolls. Art Institute of St. Louis students participated in cooking competition for a chance to work at new eco-friendly restaurant.
Eight teams of culinary students from the Art Institute of St. Louis went head-to-head in a cooking competition Friday. All were vying for the opportunity to put a dish on the menu of Prasino, the new eco-friendly restaurant going in the Streets of St. Charles development at Fifth Street and Interstate 70. Prasino teamed with the Art Institute of St. Louis on the cooking contest to offer students a way to integrate their classroom experience into the real world. “This is definitely a way we can create a relationship with the Art Institute and allow students to do a stage, an unpaid time in the kitchen, done for experience," Prasino Executive Chef Jared Case said. The new restaurant kicks off a charity initiative pitting four local charities against one another.
Tucanos Brazilian Grill welcomed city leaders to a preview of the restaurant on Tuesday night, the day before the restaurant planned to open to the public. The restaurant, located at 1520 South Fifth Street, features Brazilian dining. It's among one of the first restaurants in the Streets of St. Charles development to open. "We are so excited they're here in St. Charles City," Mayor Sally Faith said on Tuesday. "They have a beautiful facility, wonderful food and the fact that they are already involved with local charities--that's community." The design for a new eco-friendly restaurant coming to St. Charles was inspired by the Soulard Farmers Market. Prasino will open in April in the Streets of St. Charles development, at the corner of Fifth Street and Interstate 70 in St. Charles. The St. Charles location will be the third Prasino restaurant in the country, with the other two in Chicago. A fourth location in Rosemont, IL, is slated to open in August. Outpatient drug and alcohol abuse counseling center would move to Parkway Drive off of the Interstate 70 North Outer Road.
Bridgeway Behavioral Health Center may move its outpatient facility from St. Charles to St. Peters following the city of St. Charles' buyout of a portion of the property to expand South Main Street South. Bridgeway Behavioral Health has three locations on South Main Street and South River Road including an outpatient counseling center for alcohol and drug abuse at 1599 Old South River Road. The organization plans to relocate this facility to 2120 Parkway Drive, off of the North Interstate 70 outer road in St. Peters. The building was formerly Crosswinds Church. Update: Tucanos pushed back the open date. See our other story. A new Brazilian restaurant will open in St. Charles on Feb. 13. Tucanos Brazilian Grill is a chain of restaurants based in Utah. The restaurants offer traditional Brazilian grilling, churrasco, in which servers walk around with different cuts of grilled meat and vegetables on large skewers and guests are served individually. The new restaurant in St. Charles will be the seventh location in the country and the first full restaurant to open in the Streets of St. Charles development on Fifth Street. More than five years after the old Noah's Ark restaurant at Interstate 70 and Fifth Street was demolished, city officials gathered to cut the ribbon on the long-delayed mixed-use project that took its place. The first building in the Streets of St. Charles development opened earlier this summer with several tenants including Five Guys Restaurant and Fries, MassageLuxe and the Art Institute of St. Louis. The Streets of St. Charles project may have fewer residential units and a smaller total square footage going forward. The St. Charles City Council approved a request from Cullinan Properties to amend the development plan for the mixed-use project, reducing the minimum number of residential units from 520 to 400. In addition, total square footage minimum would reduce to 718,000 from current low of 1.1 million. The council approved the request on a 8-1 vote. Councilman Tom Besselman, Ward-2 voted no and Councilman Michael Weller, Ward-5, was absent. School is among the first businesses to open up at the Streets of St. Charles project.
The Art Institute of St. Louis will host a grand opening celebration at noon July 24. Classes started at the school on July 9. The school is among the first businesses to open in the Streets of St. Charles project, along with the Wamhoff Financial Services. In addition, Tucanos Churrascaria and Prasino and Five Guys Burgers and Fries are three restaurants which are expected to open in the project.
