The demonstration was held on the parking lot of St. Charles West High School.
Students at St. Charles West High School got a timely reminder last Friday about the dangers of drinking and driving. Juniors and seniors attended a program with a speaker from the the prosecuting attorney's offce in the gymnasium before moving to the school parking lot for a mock car crash. Along with the vehicle rescue demonstration, students also participated in a driver sobriety check demonstration. The St. Charles Fire Department and the St. Charles Police Department organized the demonstration, with help from Cardinal Towing, who provided the demonstration vehicles. Neither St. Charles School District high school has the capacity to accommodate students from both schools if the district wanted to continue to offer the same level of education, analysts said.
The St. Charles School District would likely spend between $9 and $13 million to consolidate to one high school. And that's way too much if you ask the St. Louis Post-Dispatch editorial board. Dickinson Hussman Architects and Brent Underwood, a retired superintendent, analyzed the viability of consolidating from two to one high school in the future based on expected trends in enrollment. The district contracted with the group in the fall to study the issue because of a perception that closing one high school would save money. However, analysts found there would not be a substantial financial savings. Neither high school has the capacity to accommodate students from both schools currently if the district wanted to continue to offer the …

A recent fight at St. Charles West has the school encouraging students to come forward when they hear rumors of threats.
Students alerting school officials of rumors of fights and threats on social media could be key to preventing violence in schools, said St. Charles School District Superintendent Jeff Marion. A recent fight that broke out at St. Charles West high school between West students and teenagers who were not district students began on Twitter, Marion said. "The only thing that might have made a difference is if someone, if some of the kids had given us a heads up," Marion said. "Maybe we could have talked to parents and kids and intervened." Beyond that, the doors were locked from the outside and a student opened them. "We can't lock doors from the inside, it's against fire code," he said. District administrators and school leaders are …

Charges have not yet been filed in the fray involving students from Ferguson-Florissant School District.
Eleven St. Charles West students have been suspended following a fight at the school on Friday involving several teens not from the St. Charles School District. "These were high school aged kids,"said St. Charles School District superintendent Jeff Marion. "It started out as a typical high school beef and got bigger when people jumped in to help friends." The fight started on social media, Marion said. A student from St. Charles West and a student from the Ferguson-Florissant School District kept talking about whom could beat up whom, he said. On Friday, two students from St. Charles West -- a junior and a senior -- can be seen on school cameras letting in four people in through a side door in the auxiliary gym around 2:20 p.m. Friday, …

A St. Charles West High School student used brass knuckles to beat another student in a rest room at the school on Feb. 13, according to a St. Charles Police report. The student, Michael Guarino, 17, of St. Charles, is being charged with second-degree assault. Guarino lured the student into the bathroom, intent on fighting him because his girlfriend had allegedly been unfaithful to him with the victim in the past, according to police. Guarino posted on his Facebook page on Feb 12 that he would “use the brass on someone to take care of business,” the report reads. The victim told Guarino several times he did not want to fight and attempted to leave, but Guarino blocked him. He hit him in the face several times with the brass knuckles and …
