Committee brought in three candidates for interviews and tours of the city, including current Interim Police Chief Larry Stulce.
The search for a new police chief for St. Charles has narrowed to three candidates and is expected to wrap up before the end of the year. Final candidates include Larry Stulce, who is serving as interim police chief for St. Charles, Iowa City Police Chief Sam Hargadine and Bloomington Police Chief Randall McKinley. More than 45 people applied for the position, which was vacated in April. "We've got three good candidates and the committee is meeting and we're evaluating and doing some normal HR processes and getting on with it," said Mayor Sally Faith. More than 45 people applied for the St. Charles police chief position, according to Mayor Sally Faith. Those candidates came from 21 different states. The city conducted a national search for a new police chief, after former Chief Dennis Corley resigned in April. The city contracted with a search group to sort and rank the applicants into various tiers. "The response was really great," Faith said. "There's going to be some further looking at it by the committee." The committee comprises St. Charles County Sheriff Tom Neer, Tom Hughes, a St. Charles County builder and former police officer, council members Laurie Feldman and Ron Stivision, Director of Administration Michael Spurgeon, Faith and a representative from human resources. Capt. Lawrence Stulce, commander of the St. Louis Bureau of Drug Enforcement, will serve during the six-month search, if approved by City Council.
Mayor Sally Faith has recommended Captain Lawrence Stulce, of the St. Louis County Police Department, to serve as the interim chief of police while the city searches for a new police chief. The City Council is expected to consider the recommendation during the May 8 council meeting. If approved, Stulce would be sworn in on May 15, according to a press release from the city. Former police chief Dennis Corley resigned in mid-April following a vote of no confidence in Corley from the St. Charles Police Association. Stulce is currently serving as commander of the St. Louis Bureau of Drug Enforcement. The City Council on Tues., May 8, will consider Faith's recommendation. Resignation follows vote of no confidence from St. Charles Police Association
St. Charles Police Chief Dennis Corley resigned from his position to pursue other interests, according to a press release from the city. His last day will be April 15. The resignation follows a vote of no confidence in Corley, Major Donovan Kenton and Captain Paul West from the St. Charles Police Association. An interim Police Chief has not yet been selected, however, Major Ed Mitchell will be in charge of the department. Then the city will conduct a national search for a replacement. Corley was appointed as police chief by former Mayor Patti York in 2007 after serving for a time as interim chief.
