Neither St. Charles School District high school has the capacity to accommodate students from both schools if the district wanted to continue to offer the same level of education, analysts said.
The St. Charles School District would likely spend between $9 and $13 million to consolidate to one high school. And that's way too much if you ask the St. Louis Post-Dispatch editorial board. Dickinson Hussman Architects and Brent Underwood, a retired superintendent, analyzed the viability of consolidating from two to one high school in the future based on expected trends in enrollment. The district contracted with the group in the fall to study the issue because of a perception that closing one high school would save money. The 2012 boys soccer season is in the books for all the Gateway Athletic Conference teams, but it's time to take a look back. Yes, it's time for another edition of the St. Charles County Athlete of the Week fan poll. Except this week has a twist. Instead of looking at the last week, we're looking at the entire season. It's time for another edition of the St. Charles County Athlete of the Week fan poll. This week we turn our attention to the football field. Tell us in the poll below: Which St. Charles County football player had the best Week 6? Matt Etherton—Fort Zumwalt East: The Lions are 5-1 and got win No. 5 in a big win against rival Zumwalt South. The quarterback-receiver combo of Shane Barrett and Matt Etherton had a big game. Etherton had just four catches, but he made them count en route to 105 yards receiving. Three of his four catches went for scores—one from 19 yards, one from 56 yards out and another from 16 yards. Jessica Ingraham, former director of St. Charles High School Band, has accepted a job as the new youth orchestra manager and education programs coordinator of the St. Louis Symphony. The Youth Orchestra consists of 95 to 100 young musicians ranging in age from 12 to 22 years old. Youth Orchestra members represent more than three dozen schools throughout the St. Louis region, and some from as far away as Rolla, Jefferson City, and Columbia, MO, as well as Springfield, IL. The orchestra was founded in 1970 by Leonard Slatkin. Music education is one of Ingraham's passions. She served as director of bands at St. Charles High School since 2006. Fort Zumwalt South's Taylor Wade wins fan's choice award.
Taylor Wade is not just a goal scorer. Sure the Zumwalt South star can score—she scored 17 goals this season—but she can also be a playmaker. She led the GAC with 19 assists and was second in the conference in total points. Her offensive output was enough to garner the attention of fans across the GAC. Wade's showing was good enough to get her the crown of Patch's fan's choice poll for GAC soccer player of the year. Here's how the voting broke down: Who is the top GAC girls soccer player for the 2012 season? Wade was part of a strong offensive attack from Zumwalt South. All across St. Charles County fans got to witness great performances from girls soccer players. Here's what we're looking for: Who is the top GAC girls soccer player for the 2012 season? Here are the nominees: Lydia Meeks—St. Charles High School: The Pirates' Lydia Meeks was a top-5 offensive threat in the GAC North this season. The St. Charles High School student finished in the top-5 in points, goals and assists. Meeks netted 14 goals and picked up 12 helpers for the Pirates. Her 40 points were fifth in the conference, but her goals and assists both put her in a tie for fourth. She also added two game-winning goals for St. Charles. St. Charles High School takes a step back as its 2012 senior class takes a step into their future.
“Let me tell you the story of a little girl who refused to sleep in her own bed,” began Emily Thompson, in her class address. Her speech would go on to illustrate the steps made by the St. Charles High School 2012 senior class to reach graduation. The commencement was held in the gymnasium of St. Charles High School May 25. Filling the bleachers were supportive family and friends. Class president Kristin Wyninegar performed duties as master of ceremonies, and gave a quick introduction. Addresses and honors similar to senior classman Emily Thompson’s followed. The theme for the evening was fear of the post-graduation world. Comparing monsters under the bed to career aspects, Thompson ultimately concludes that her childhood fears were just …
