St. Charles City was awarded funding from St. Charles County Road Board for several road projects in 2014 and 2015.
Several major roads in St. Charles will get a complete overhaul in 2014 and 2015. The St. Charles County Road Board recently awarded funding for several projects in St. Charles. One of those projects is designed to ease congestion at Muegge Road and Mexico Road. The city previously studied possible solutions to traffic problems at Cave Springs and I-70. One solution that will be implemented in 2014 will be widening Muegge Road in front of the QuikTrip south of Mexico Road. This will allow crews to add a second left turn lane to the road. The St. Charles City Council may agree to providing a share of funding for a major study looking at traffic conditions and issues along Interstate 70 in St. Charles County.
A majority of St. Charles City Council members said on Tuesday night that they may support participation in a study on improving traffic conditions along the Interstate 70 corridor extending west. The Federal Highway Administration would complete the study along the corridor extending from I-270 in St. Louis County, across the Blanchette Bridge, west as to near Lake Saint Louis. St. Charles City Engineer Kevin Corwin said the council is expected to act on a request to provide $50,000 share of the study at their meeting on March 20. St. Charles County local governments are putting up much of the $375,000 local cost share of the projects. Business owners are invited to a stakeholder meeting to discuss possible improvements to Cave Springs, Zumbehl Interchanges, including a move to one-way outer roads.
St. Charles has invited business owners located along the outer roads of Interstate 70 near Cave Springs and Zumbehl Road to attend a meeting to discuss possible improvements to those interchanges. The stakeholder workshop will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Jan. 25 at St. Charles County Government Center. The meeting is an opportunity for business owners to offer feedback on possible improvements to the area. The city contracted with Crawford, Bunte and Brammeier to study long-term and short-term solutions to congestion at Zumbehl Road and Cave Springs Boulevard interchanges in 2010.
