Working Women's Survival Show Scheduled for Feb. 22-24

The annual event returns to St. Charles this weekend. Check out who will be featured, where to find parking and what's new this year.

Working Women's Survival Show returns to the St. Charles Convention Center Feb. 22-24.  The event will feature booths from more than 370 exhibitors. Participants can attend seminars that range from organizing your closets to running a business with your spouse. Among the featured speakers is actress Maria Bello, who has appeared in films including "Coyote Ugly" and "The Cooler." The event also features a "pampered in paradise" room in which luxury spa services are offered, a nail bar, where you can get a manicure, and a club firm, fit and feminine stage, which offers wellness tips.  Tickets are $9 a day for adults and two-day wristbands are available for purchase at the St. Charles Convention Center on the day of the show. Pokémon Gamers to Compete in St. Charles This Weekend

Pokémon Trading Card Game and video game players will compete at 2013 Pokémon Winter Regional Championships at St. Charles Convention Center.

Pokémon fans and card game players will head to the St. Charles Convention Center this weekend for the annual Pokémon Winter Regional Championships.  Competitors will play for a chance to go to the U.S. National Championships, held in Indianapolis, IN July 5-7. World Championships will be held in Vancouver, B.C., Canada.  The Trading Card Game players will compete on Jan. 19 and video game players will compete Jan. 20.  Fans can come out to watch the events and pick up special Pokémons which will be given away during the event.  Admission is free. Homeless Woman Raped 13-Year-Old Boy in Her Car, Police Say

St. Charles Police said Katrina R. Helderle had sex with a 13-year-old boy in the back seat of her car Oct. 22 while a 12-year-old girl was in the front seat.

A homeless woman faces criminal charges after St. Charles Police said she had sex with a 13-year-old boy in the back seat of her car Oct. 22. Jail may not be the answer for this situation. But, I will say that it is not normal for a 20 yr old girl to want to have sex with a 13 yr old boy. It's obvious that this girl has some serious mental issues and even with that being said she still knows the difference between right and wrong. She needs some serious therapy . Council Member Questions 1% Tourism Tax

Councilman Dave Beckering asks the council to look at the money the city spends on tourism with the dedicated 1 percent tourism tax.

The 1 percent annual tourism tax that owners of restaurants, hotels, and motel operators pay is under scrutiny by the City Council. Council Vice President Dave Beckering, Ward-7, raised the issue at the April 10 work session. He said he wants to examine whether the tax could be put to better use. Voters approved the tourism license tax in 1984. Restaurants, hotels and motels throughout the city pay 1 percent of gross receipts to the city. In the first year, the tax generated $323,325. In 2010, the tax generated more than $2 million which is spent by the Greater St. Charles Convention and Visitors Bureau on tourism efforts. “It’s really a matter of how much is enough?” he said. “You started with $300,000 in 1984, now we’re spending over $2 …

Rick Santorum Will Host Primary Night Party in St. Charles

Santorum will be at the St. Charles Convention Center for a primary night party Tuesday.

Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum is planning to be back in St. Charles on Tuesday night for a primary night party, according his campaign website. On Tuesday, Missouri voters will be able to signal their preference for presidential candidates in a nonbinding primary vote. Colorado and Minnesota will hold caucuses Feb. 7 and Santorum is expected to be in Colorado Springs, CO and Blaine, MN earlier Tuesday, according to his his schedule. Santorum's party will be held at the St. Charles Convention Center in the Grand Ballroom A and B at 9 p.m. The announcement was posted on his website Monday. Historic North Main Street Hosts Sidewalk Sale

Main Street shops will also stay open late next week.

Several merchants on North Main Street spread their wares out on tables lining the sidewalk Thursday afternoon for the 60th annual sidewalk sale. The participating shops will have their goods out until 8 p.m. Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The first day of the sidewalk sale coincides with the hot summer nights concert. Shops Open Late Next Tuesday Next Tuesday, many merchants on North and South Main Street are planning to stay open later so that people in town for a large annual conference can shop in the evening. Working Women's Survival Show Comes to St. Charles Convention Center

The three-day event features more than 350 exhibitors.

Whether you're a CEO or a stay-at-home mom, all are welcome at the 24th Annual Working Women's Survival Show. The show runs Friday through Sunday, Feb. 25-27, at the St. Charles Convention Center, One Convention Center Plaza in St. Charles. The center will be filled with more than 350 exhibits and multiple stages featuring information on fashion, food, fitness and more. The Working Women's  Survival Show was created by Geri Kroon, who had been working on bringing shows such as Sesame Street Live and The Harlem Globetrotters to St. Louis. Make Tracks for The Great Train Expo

The two-day event takes place at the St. Charles Convention Center.

Train enthusiasts, young and old, should make tracks to The Great Train Expo this weekend. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 29 and 30, at the St. Charles Convention Center, One Convention Center Plaza, St. Charles. This is the fourth year for the event at the convention center in St. Charles. "It averages about 5,000 people over the course of two days and is one of our larger hobby/specialty-based consumer shows here at the facility," said Joe Capitanelli, marketing manager for the center.
