I agree with most of what you have written. The High Schools need to have a better curriculum to prepare students for today's IT world. Better computer and science courses. When my daughters attended we had a hard time plotting a schedule that would enable them to take the courses necessary to enter a 4 year Missouri college. Has this been improved. St. Charles School Board Election: Submit Your Questions for Candidates

Patch will send questionnaires to the five candidates running in the April election for two seats on the St. Charles Board of Education. What questions should we include?

Six candidates have filed to run for two seats on the St. Charles Board of Education in the April 2 election. As we approach the election, Patch will send each candidate a questionnaire to help empower voters to cast their ballots for the candidates they believe in. And we would like to include all of you in the process.  What questions do you have for the candidates? Do you have a question about an issue in a particular school? Update: One Person Drops Out of Francis Howell Board of Education Race

Six candidates file in St. Charles School Board; Orchard Farm School Board won't hold election.

Update:  Chad Lange has decided to drop out of the race for the Francis Howell Board of Education, just a day after the close of filing, according to a press release from the school district.  That leaves just four people running for two open seats on the Board of Education, including incumbents Amy McEvoy and Cynthia Bice.  McEvoy, a Missouri Options teacher at Maplewood Richmond Heights High School, was first elected to the school board in 2010.  Bice also has completed one term on the board. How Are St. Charles Schools Doing?

St. Charles School District seeks feedback from community members, parents and staff as it begins the comprehensive school improvement plan

St. Charles School District plans to spend the next few months working on a strategic plan to guide the work the district will do in the next five years.  As part of developing the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan, the district has assembled a team of more than 100 people including community members, students, teachers, staff and alumni to work on various committees starting Jan. 9.  "All different stakeholders will be represented in these groups," said Superintendent Jeff Marion.  In addition, the district is asking the community for feedback through a survey.  The survey asks people to agree or disagree on a scale with several questions, including:  To participate in the survey, click on a link below. St. Charles School District Plans to Install New Security Measures

District may put bond issue before voters to pay for more than $2.5 million in security improvements and other construction projects.

The district has identified $2.5 million in security upgrades that are needed across the district, including installing an alarm system to the front door of each building, electronic locks and a card entry system.  Following the shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, CT on Friday, Superintendent Jeff Marion posted an update online with information about the district's current security measures and plans for improvement.  Marion reassured parents that the district staff has had training for situations involving an intruder or an active shooter in the schools.
