A St. Charles landlord is accused of assaulting his tenants to get them removed from his property and then keeping the rent and deposit money. St. Charles Police said Charles McKee, 50, of the 1100 block of Howell Street in St. Charles, “established a pattern of scamming his tenants for the rent and deposit money, using the same scenario each time.” St. Charles Police said McKee intentionally instigated a fight by chasing his tenant down the hallway Dec. 10 by pushing and chest-butting the man. McKee then called police to get the resident removed from his property. Police said McKee intended to keep the $400 in rent and $200 in deposit money. A man was charged with taking money for home repairs in St. Charles without intending to do the work. Jason M. Leavy, 38, of the 1300 block of Brenthaven Lane in Florissant, was charged by the Missouri Attorney General’s Office with three counts of using deceptive business practices. St. Charles Police said Leavy made false promises to replace roofs, gutters and window screens on three homes in St. Charles. Police said he did not intend to do the work. Leavy is being charged as a persistent offender. Leavy also was convicted in 2006 in St. Louis County and served four years in prison for defrauding homeowners. The St. Louis BBB is warning fans who are traveling to Texas for the World Series about suspicious hotel offers.
On Monday, the St. Louis Better Business Bureau warned Cardinal nation about World Series ticket scams. Tuesday came an alert about hotel ads targetting fans who may be scrambling to find accommodations in the Arlington area. The BBB said the ads are cropping up on Craigslist. The alert A release from the BBB reads in part: Several ads for World Series hotel packages on a classified ad site claimed to offer tickets for a Rams-Cowboys game along with the hotel, a tip-off that the person who placed the ad may not be familiar with the teams in the World Series, the Cardinals and the Texas Rangers.
