Despite first-place finishes by St. Charles High School freshman Carley Johansson in several races, St. Charles West swimmers dominated the Dec. 13 meet against the Pirates, earning a 125-41 victory. "We are off to a good start but the toughest part of our schedule is ahead of us and we have work to do to continue with a strong season," St. Charles West Coach Steve Smith said. The St. Charles West team is smaller this year because six seniors who were top point-scorers graduated. "While we have some depth this season it's not as much as last year," he said. Alumnus Joe Leibner has players ready both on and off the field.
You can count the number of St. Charles High School 2010 football wins on one hand. Actually, you don't need the whole hand as the Pirates won only two games. But after a winless 2009 season, those wins represent a step in a positive direction for the team, led by rookie head coach Joe Leibner. Leibner is no stranger to SCHS. He played football for the school for four years before he graduated in 2001. He helped coach the team from 2003 to 2006 while attending Lindenwood University. Leibner worked as a student assistant for Lindenwood's football program, and as a graduate assistant for the Mizzou Tigers football team before returning to St. Charles High School to coach.
