High Schools Plan Fall Theater Productions

Shows range from "Our Town" to "Charlie And The Chocolate Factory."

Young thespians and their teachers at the five high schools in St. Charles are gearing up for the fall theater season.  Orchard Farm High School will present Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at 7 p.m. Nov. 11-12 in the school gym, 2165 Highway V. Based on the children's book by British author Roald Dahl, it tells the story of young Charlie Bucket, who has a bizarre adventure while visiting a chocolate factory owned by the eccentric Willy Wonka. "It's a show we've not done before," said Kathy Bhat, music teacher and director. "It looked like we had the right group of kids, and there was a lot of interest in it. It's a fun show." The show features high school and middle school students. There are 19 in the cast along with 16 Oompa Loompas …

Orchard Farm Drops Home Opener to Montgomery County

Eagles' offense struggles in loss to Wildcats.

At 5-foot-4 and 135 pounds, Montgomery County junior Nick Martin has modest size for a running back. But there was nothing modest about the game he had against Orchard Farm on Friday. Martin rushed for an unofficial tally of 132 yards on 18 carries and found the endzone twice, including a 51-yard touchdown scamper late in the fourth quarter that sealed a 21-0 win over the host Eagles at Luxembourg Field in a matchup between Eastern Missouri Conference teams. "I have the advantage of having a low center of gravity and I work on my game every day," Martin said. "I'll try anything to get bigger, faster and stronger. Anything to bring out my best." The visiting Wildcats took advantage of an early Orchard Farm special teams miscue. Montgomery …

Orchard Farm's Offensive Line to Pave the Way

The Eagles return four of their five starters on the offensive line and also bring back the starting quarterback.

To listen to Phil Kendall talk about his 2011 Orchard Farm football team is like listening to a proud father talk about his child’s latest achievement. Coming off a 5-5 season that had both blowout wins and losses, Kendall is confident that his Eagles can make a run for the Eastern Missouri Conference title in their final season in the league. Orchard Farm went 3-2 in conference play last year. With 14 returning starters, the Eagles are a fairly experienced group, especially where it counts—in the trenches. Offense: While the fifth starter isn’t quite set, the Eagles bring back four returning starters on the offensive line. Two of the three players vying for the starting job at left guard have varsity experience. Seniors Wyatt Weber, Jake …

Orchard Farm Soccer Wins District Title

A 4-2 win over Lutheran High School means team advances to sectionals.

ORCHARD FARM - Alexis Robbers can finally smile as she cruises the halls of Orchard Farm High.     The junior sniper no longer has to gaze at the Eagles' weak soccer trophy case, which contained just a pair of sad-looking second-place district plaques.    "I've been staring at those things every time I go to gym class," Robbers said. "It makes me want to cry."     Junior Brooke Burckhardt scored twice and Robbers added a goal and three assists on Wednesday to lead Orchard Farm to a 4-2 win over St. Charles Lutheran in the championship game of the Class 1A District 7 Tournament at Luxembourg Field.    The district crown is the first in school history for the Eagles (15-7), who will likely play host to Winfield in a sectional contest on …

Notebook: Orchard Farm's Teams Preparing For Bigger Stage

Orchard Farm is moving to the larger Gateway Athletic Conference, plus other sports news from the area.

As Orchard Farm begins to wind down what has been an extremely successful school year for its athletics program, the Eagles can begin to set its sights on the larger Gateway Athletic Conference. The GAC and its superintendents concluded their vote on Thursday, approving adding Orchard Farm to its conference beginning with the 2012-13 school year. The Eagles are currently part of the much smaller 10-team Eastern Missouri Conference. Winfield, also part of the Eastern Missouri Conference, will also join the GAC. But Pattonville’s application was denied (5-2 vote) for a second time and will remain in the Suburban North Conference. Because of the increase in teams, the GAC said a three-division alignment is likely in 2012-2013 Orchard Farm‘s …

Top Scorer Hopes to Take Eagles to State

Junior Alexis Robbers has 18 goals, three assists on season.

ORCHARD FARM - So far the only person able to slow down Orchard Farm soccer standout Alexis Robbers is her own coach.      And Brandon Cox is doing it for all the right reasons.      Robbers, a junior scoring machine, is so talented that last season Cox had to initiate what has become known around Eagle Nation as the, "Three Goal Rule."      Once Robbers, or any other Orchard Farm player, scores a third goal in a game, that player must either leave the field for the day or move back and play defense. That way, the Eagles hold down the score against weaker opponents. Plus, it gives some of Cox' other players a chance to score.      Yes, the 5-foot-7 inch Robbers is that good.      Robbers has scored 18 goals for Orchard Farm, which enters …

Notebook: Orchard Farm Baseball, Girls Soccer Finally Lose

Orchard Farm baseball and girls soccer are each having stellar seasons.

The highly-touted Orchard Farm baseball team played four games in three days this week, but could not come away unscathed. The Eagles split the games and will play at home against Elsberry on Monday (5 p.m.) with a 9-2 record. Orchard Farm lost to red-hot Westminster, 9-8, on Tuesday but bounced back to win both games in a doubleheader on Wednesday, defeating Whitfield, 11-6, and also Lutheran St. Charles, 9-3. The Eagles lost on Thursday night, 5-2, to Priory. Orchard Farm is currently atop the Eastern Missouri Conference with a 4-0 record. Coach Phil Kendall has relied on three players to drive his potent offense, which is averaging over 11 runs per game. Junior first baseman and pitcher Spencer Pugh is batting a team-best .524 on 22 …
