Principals who spoke at the meeting all favored the new system over the traditional method of grading.
St. Charles School District principals on Thursday offered the St. Charles Board of Education an update on the district's move toward implementing Standards Based Grading. Standards Based Grading (SBG) differs from traditional grading in that students are rated on a 1-4 scale on essential skills they are expected to learn with one as the lowest and four as the highest. Traditional grading rates students on a 100 percent scale and students earn letter grades. The district currently uses SBG at various schools from kindergarten through 6th grade. There is a tentative schedule in place that aims to have the new system implemented in all grade levels (K-12) by the 2015-16 school year. Principals who spoke at the meeting favored the new system …

The St. Charles casino saw an 8 percent dip in gamblers.
Numbers are dipping for Maryland Heights and St. Charles-based casinos. St. Charles’ Ameristar Casino, according to the Missouri Gaming Commission, indicates the casino saw an 8 percent decrease in admissions—581,063 people were admitted in April 2012 against 632,886 in April 2011. Maryland Heights' Harrah’s Casino, which was recently sold to the same company that owns Alton's Argosy Casino, saw a year-over-year drop in admissions last month as well. The Missouri Gaming Commission indicated 600,357 people were admitted into the casino in April 2012, while April 2011 saw 627,457 admitted. That’s a four percent decrease, according to the commission.
