Blanchette Bridge Project Progressing Ahead of Scheudle

MoDOT hopes to open the bridge in Mid-August, three months ahead of the original schedule.

The Blanchette Bridge project is progressing ahead of schedule. On Friday morning Missouri Department of Transportation District Engineer Ed Hassinger and St. Charles Mayor Sally Faith announced Friday morning that the project could be finished three months ahead of schedule.  When the westbound bridge was closed November 2, 2012, plans called for the shutdown to last for a maximum of one year. However Hassinger said MoDOT is pushing to open the bridge  annual Festival of the Little Hills in mid-August. If MoDOT hits that goal, the project would be done three months ahead of the original schedule.  MoDOT said this week that Walsh Construction installed the last major piece of structural steel for the bridge. Since March, crews have …

There needs to be signs posted at the Eager Rd (left lane for Eager Rd EAST / middle lane Target Promenade & Eager Rd EAST / right lane Eager Rd WEST) at the exit heading South from 170. There are two lanes but everyone exits on the right lane onto Eager and cuts everyone off in the left lane to go EAST on Eager. The signs should be hung along the side of the 40 West overpass. Thank you!   more ›

Speeding Drivers Look As Steel Truss Goes Up on Blanchette Bridge

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, most drivers have adapted to the lane closures five months into the year-long project, but speeding is an issue.

Most commuters are used to the lane closures on the Blanchette Bridge five months into the year-long reconstruction project.  However, the recent activity from crews putting up the new steel truss has led to some rear-end accidents in the area, said Linda Horn Wilson, spokesperson for the Missouri Department of Transportation.  "Most of the crashes we're having are rear-end crashes," Horn Wilson said. "Some of it is people driving too fast, crashing into the car in front of them. The other issue is, since steel is going up, people are looking and are hitting the car that's slowed or stopped in front of them." Horn Wilson said that MoDOT works with the Missouri State Highway Patrol to see if there's a common place or time for accidents, but…

"Driving too fast" is an understatement. My service trucks are constantly running across that bridge multiple times a day. The biggest thing that we notice is that there is no enforcement of the 45 mph construction speed limit. When we slow down while approaching the construction zone as required to 45 mph we are being passed as if standing still and having others nearly rear end our trucks.   more ›

1.) With the increased traffic on the Daniel Boone Bridge due to lane closures on the Blanchette, why did they decide to do blasting now? It doesn't make sense to have closures on one of the alternate routes. Drivers in the Lake St. Louis/Wentzville area do not have easy access to the Page extension. 2.) How much extra time should we plan in our commutes due to blasting?   more ›

Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awards contract for Phase 3.

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission on Wednesday awarded a contract to complete construction on the Highway 364 Page Avenue Extension project.  The $118.2 million project was awarded to Page Constructors LLC, a team comprising Fred Weber Inc., Millstone Bangert Inc., Kolb Grading and Parsons Transportation Group.
