Most banks are closed for MLK Day and most grocery stores are open. St. Charles School District, the Francis Howell School District and Orchard Farm School Districts are closed. Government offices, including St. Charles City Hall and St. Charles County Government buildings, will be closed to the public. St. Charles County Courthouse will also be closed. United States Post Offices will be closed. St. Charles City-County Library District will be open. The Metrolink will follow a normal weekday schedule for Monday, Jan. 21. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would have turned 82 on Sunday. King received the Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 35, making him the youngest man to have received the award. King was assassinated on April 4, 1968 at his hotel in Memphis where he planned to lead a protest march to help the striking garbage workers. There are several events being held in St. Charles County to honor Dr. King and his life’s work.
