Young and old alike will enjoy creating holiday treats with a few simple ingredients. These fun candies are easy to create, and will bring joy to recipients. After all, who needs another tie or Christmas themed mug?
Kids love creating goodies in the kitchen. This time of year is particularly fun for kids, because they can give their creations as gifts or listen to “Oooohhs!” and “Ahhhs!” as the adults sample their goodies from the buffet table. For most of my candy creations, I temper chef series chocolate, but many people do not have the time, inclination or the tools to do so. For quick, gift worthy treats from the kitchen that are easy enough for kids to do alone (or with supervision, depending on their age), My Son’s Candy Supply in St. Peters has some great products. My Son’s Candy Supply sells chocolate flavored discs that melt easily then hardens as the product cools. They also have a variety of wrappers, packaging and boxes, to add a touch of …

Santa and his elves will stroll the parade route, accepting donations of toys and cash and giving out holiday cheer.
A Christmas Parade with visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus, elves, snowmen and more, downtown businesses with live holiday scenes in the windows and the play “A Laura Ingalls Wilder Christmas” make Hannibal the place to be this weekend. The annual parade, sponsored by the Hannibal Jaycees, has the theme “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.” With the historic downtown decorated for the holidays, the parade will be part of a winter wonderland of lights and displays. “Last year we had a sleigh, reindeer, snowmen – people get really creative,” said Jennifer Foster, chairman of the parade and chairman of the board for the Hannibal Jaycees. Santa, who will walk the parade route with his elves, will stop and say hello and even pose for …

Patch Associate Local Editor Joe Scott takes on a pre-Black Friday Thanksgiving retail challenge and comes out on the wrong end.
One thing you should know is that I never go shopping on any “Black” day, especially Black Friday. I’m not camping in a parking lot so I can save $50 on a DVR. I have always resisted the siren call of bargains, calling me to dash my patience and self-respect on the rocky racks of flat-screen TVs, iPhones and game systems. I’d gladly spend an extra $100 on a laptop so I can walk into a store, point, buy it and walk out faster than a ninja could whack you with nun chuks and be out the window in his black pajamas. So the first few times my wife asked if I would go out on Thanksgiving night to get a $158, 14-foot trampoline replete with protective mesh netting, I just laughed. “Think of the odds,” I thought. The call of the bargain However, …
