Second Synagogue Forms in St. Charles County

Six board members from B'Nai Torah left to form a new Jewish congregation.

For the first time in 26 years, St. Charles County has two synagogues. B'Nai Torah has been in St. Peters since 1984. The newest Jewish congregation, Ahavat Shalom, was formed in August when six members of B'Nai Torah's nine-member board decided to leave.  Now Ahavat Shalom leaders are looking for a permanent home for the congregation and reaching out to the Jewish community in St. Charles through social networking sites like Facebook and Myspace. Ahavat Shalom President Paul Dorn said the new congregation is post-denominational, which means they want everyone to feel comfortable worshipping at Ahavat Shalom. Currently there are 10 families, about 30 people, who are members of the congregation. "One synagogue did not fit everyone's needs…
