Foundry Art Centre Planning Free Food Truck Series

Attendees will have a chance to interact with articsts by drawing, painting, creating pottery, making jewelry, writing, actigng and dancing. Live music will also be provided.

Food trucks have become very popular amongst St. Charles residents over the last several years and the Foundry Art Centre is hoping that popularity will help boost awareness for the arts.  The Foundry Arte Centre is teaming up with Saint Charles Riverfront Arts to host a free, monthly food truck series—coined "2nd Thursdays"—that begins next week. The event will be held every second Thursday of the month between April 11 and Oct. 10. The event, held in the Foundry's parking lot at 520 N. Foundry Art Centre Hosts Free Family Fun Day

Event will run from 12 to 3 p.m. Feb. 10.

Puppets will provide entertainment for the first Family Fun Day at the Foundry Art Centre this year.  The Family Fun Day is scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. Feb. 10. Peppy Puppet Troupe will perform an original musical performance of "Little Red Riding Hood" at 1 p.m.  in the Foundry's new puppet theatre.  The puppet theatre is part of Art Carousel, a space that has room for children's artwork, art-making areas and stations, a reading corner and other kid-centric features. Funding for Art Carousel came from a $20,000 grant from PNC Arts Alive.  The Family Fun Day also marks the opening of the library and reading area in the Baue Family Children's Gallery.  Children can make art projects based on the book of the month, create their own puppets…

St. Charles City-County Library District Book Fair: The annual book fair will run from Aug. 3-5 at the St. Charles Convention Center. Friday, doors open at 9 a.m. and the cost is $10 to get in. Entry is free on Saturday and Sunday.  MR340 Finishes in St. Charles: Be sure to head to Bishop's Landing on Aug. 3 for the finale of the MR340 a kayak and canoe race from Kansas City to St. Charles. The Lewis and Clark Boathouse and Nature Center will have free admission from Aug. 1-3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will sell barbecue from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 2-3. Winners will start to arrive Thursday night and into Friday morning.  Outdoor movies at New Town St. Charles: Head to the New Town Amphitheatre at sundown to watch a movie under the stars. …

Foundry Art Centre Hires New Program Manager

Jessica May will be in charge of educational programming for children and adults.

The Foundry Art Centre hired Jessica May as the program manager for the organization. May will run community outreach programming ranging from summer camps to adult art classes to managing the Foundry's presence at various festivals in St. Charles. She'll also work with schools who may visit the Foundry for a tour. Jessica May is a 2009 graduate of Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, with a Masters in Fine Arts in Textiles. May has been a volunteer at the Saint Louis Art Museum for over five years, as well as teaching classes and leading tours for both children and adults. She has participated in and curated art exhibitions throughout the Saint Louis area. She is an active member of the Saint Louis Weaver’s Guild. You might be …

Last Chance: Foundry Art Centre Seeks Applications for Studio Space

Applications accepted for studio space through Sunday, May 6.

The Foundry Art Centre is accepting applications for available studio space. Studio artists will be selected by a jury panel on May 7, 2012 to rent studio space for one year, renewable after the first year. Completed applications, artwork and the $35 application fee are being through May 6.  Studio space ranges from 375 square feet to 786 square feet. Cost is $8.60 per square foot per year and includes 24-hour access. Artists are encouraged to consider joint application for larger studios to help defray expenses and to meet the center’s minimum hours of open-studio time for studio residents. Third Annual Family Culture Day Event to Showcase Latino Art, Culture and Cuisine

The event is scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Foundry Art Centre will host its third annual Family Culture Day event from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday “The Family Culture Day event series celebrates Latino contributions to the arts and features informational displays, dance and live musical performances, Latino artists and art activities for children, and ethnic food and refreshments,” Foundry Art Centre spokesperson Mary Hediger told Patch in an email. Foundry Art Centre executive director Laura Helling said in a press release that the event is part of The Foundry Art Centre’s commitment to bringing a variety of art, music and culture to the community. Meet the Artist

Billyo O'Donnell Changed Landscape Painting in Missouri

The acclaimed artist and long-time Foundry Arts Centre board member was honored by the Missouri Arts Council with an award.

Missouri native landscape artist Billyo O’Donnell has been honored as top individual artist in the 2012 Missouri Arts awards, presented by the Missouri Arts Council.  It's the latest in a string of other prestigious awards O'Donnell has received for his work from many esteemed organizations. He has also exhibited his work in museums across the country. A Well-Deserved Honor “To be recognized for what I’ve done is a very humbling thing for me," O’Donnell told Patch. "I’m thrilled to death.” Foundry Art Centre executive director Laura Helling said the recognition reflects O'Donnell's commitment to the local art community. “He has been an enthusiastic supporter of the arts throughout the St. Louis community,” she said in a news release. …
