Gary Sinise's Lt. Dan Band to Play Family Arena This Weekend

Event will help local wounded veteran.

How often do you get to help someone else just by going out on a Friday night? This week, anyone who attends a concert at the St. Charles Family Arena has that chance. Midas has announced a $10,000 challenge to St. Louis and the surrounding communities to buy tickets for Gary Sinise's Lt. Dan Band Benefit Concert on Friday. The proceeds from the event will benefit Corporal Todd Nicely.  Nicely, of Arnold, is one of only three quad amputees to survive the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Although Sinise is the spokesperson for MIDAS, he is best known for his role in Forrest Gump as Lt. Dan and his current role on CSI: NY, as well as dozens of other movies over the years. Moolah Shrine Circus Returns to Family Arena

The circus acts include a human cannonball and white tigers.

White tigers, sibling contortionists and a human cannonball are among the featured acts for the 69th Annual Moolah Shrine Circus. The three-ring spectacle begins Thursday and runs through Sunday, presenting eight performances at the Family Arena, 2002 Arena Parkway, St. Charles. "We've got a couple of new acts we're pretty excited about," Mark Rethemeyer, circus director said. "We've got an act called 'Girls in the Glass Box' that will bring the house down." In the act, a female contortionist squeezes into a 3-foot-by-3-foot glass box, but that's not all. "Her sister gets in with her," Rethemeyer said. Also on the bill: The Motorcycles of Death. Ice Racing Heats Up Family Arena

The Xtreme International Ice Racing tour makes its annual stop at the Family Arena.

Man, machine, ice. Those three ingredients are the keys to the thrill ride known as professional ice racing. The Xtreme International Ice Racing (XiiR) tour makes its annual stop on Saturday, Jan. 22, at the Family Arena in St. Charles. "Ice racing has been at the arena since 2001," said Tom O'Keefe, marketing manager for the Family Arena. "Ice racing does consistent numbers.  We normally have 4,000 to 5,000 people in attendance." The 2010-2011 tour began Dec. 11 in Rapid City, SD, and is scheduled to end Feb. 25 in Danville, IL. St. Charles is the third stop on a seven-city tour that crosses the United States and Canada. Dr. Zhivegas Promises An Explosive New Year's Eve

The band will ring in the new year at Family Arena in St. Charles.

Frankie Muriel doesn't want to give away all the secrets of the Dr. Zhivegas New Year's Eve show, but he does promise it will be explosive. "You gotta come and see it," he said. "I guarantee you, we're gonna blow the roof off the place." Muriel is the frontman of Dr. Zhivegas, the rock-disco-funk band that is bringing its New Year's Eve show to the Family Arena. Doors open at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, and the show begins at 8 p.m. with guests, country rock band, Rough Ryders.
