St. Charles Will Seek New Fire Chief

Ernie Rhoads, fire chief for nine years, resigned and took a job with West County EMS and Fire Protection District.

The city of St. Charles will start a search for a new fire chief, Mayor Sally Faith said Friday.  On Thursday evening, former St. Charles Fire Chief Ernie Rhodes was announced Thursday as the new chief for the West County EMS & Fire Protection District.  The West County fire district serves a number of cities, including Town and Country, Manchester, Ballwin, Winchester, Twin Oaks, portions of Valley Park and nearby parts of unincorporated St. Louis County.  Faith said Rhoads is no longer working in St. Charles. She plans to appoint an interim fire chief soon.  "We should know something at the beginning of the week," she said. St. Charles Fire Chief Says Fireworks Show Will Go On July 4th

Fireworks display is shot off from a barge in the middle of the Missouri River on the Fourth of July.

As several St. Louis communities cancel firework displays, the show will go on in St. Charles.  St. Charles Fire Chief Ernie Rhoads is more concerned about the sustained high temperatures causing heat stroke than fires from fireworks in St. Charles.  For more news about events in St. Charles, follow St. Charles Patch on Facebook.  Rhoads said across St. Charles County there have been a few brush fires, but heat emergencies are up more than that. He said that the area is not experiencing an extreme draught. The National Weather Service has not issued a "red flag warning" 'We're not Colorado or anything like that," he said.
