St. Charles City Council Approved Appointment of Capt. Lawrence Stulce as Interim Police Chief on Tuesday.
St. Charles City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved St. Louis County Police Capt. Lawrence Stulce's appointment as the interim police chief for St. Charles for the next six months. Councilman Mike Weller, Ward-5, was absent from the work session. Stulce will be sworn during the May 15 council meeting. His first day is May 14. The city plans to conduct a national search for a new police chief, and expects to hire someone by the end of the year. Director of Administration Michael Spurgeon said Mayor Sally Faith hasn't yet decided whether she wants to hire an outside search firm to assist in the process. Capt. Lawrence Stulce, commander of the St. Louis Bureau of Drug Enforcement, will serve during the six-month search, if approved by City Council.
Mayor Sally Faith has recommended Captain Lawrence Stulce, of the St. Louis County Police Department, to serve as the interim chief of police while the city searches for a new police chief. The City Council is expected to consider the recommendation during the May 8 council meeting. If approved, Stulce would be sworn in on May 15, according to a press release from the city. Former police chief Dennis Corley resigned in mid-April following a vote of no confidence in Corley from the St. Charles Police Association. Resignation follows vote of no confidence from St. Charles Police Association
St. Charles Police Chief Dennis Corley resigned from his position to pursue other interests, according to a press release from the city. His last day will be April 15. The resignation follows a vote of no confidence in Corley, Major Donovan Kenton and Captain Paul West from the St. Charles Police Association. An interim Police Chief has not yet been selected, however, Major Ed Mitchell will be in charge of the department. Then the city will conduct a national search for a replacement. Corley was appointed as police chief by former Mayor Patti York in 2007 after serving for a time as interim chief. St. Charles Mayor Sally Faith is reviewing a vote of no confidence taken by the St. Charles Police Officer's Association. Faith released a statement about the issue last week. “We are aware the St. Charles Police Officers Association has taken a ‘no confidence’ vote, and we’re currently in the process of reviewing the details surrounding this situation. Michael Spurgeon, director of administration, and I have not made any changes in regards to the city’s leadership at this time.
