Couple Indicted on Manslaughter For Selling Heroin to Overdose Victim

The couple sold heroin to a man who took the drug and overdosed, dying July 31, Drug Task Force detectives said.

A St. Charles couple was indicted for involuntary manslaughter after law enforcement officials said they sold heroin to a man, who overdosed and died July 31. A St. Charles County grand jury reached decisions to hold both over for trial. Thomas Lucas, 23, and Whitney M. Patrick, 23, both of the 200 block of Ameristar Boulevard in St. Charles, also were indicted on two counts of distributing a controlled substance. St. Charles County Drug Task Force detectives said Jemil Ely, 23, gave Lucas and Patrick $50 for five doses of heroin. Lucas then bought eight heroin doses in the city of St. Louis on July 30. Patrick, Lucas’ girlfriend, then gave the heroin to Ely, keeping three doses for herself.  Lucas and Patrick said rather than give Ely …

Man facing charges called heroin "the devil," and said he hates the drug.

The St. Charles County Prosecutors office charged a St. Charles man April 16 in connection with his roommate’s fatal overdose in December. Christopher R. Frambers, 23, is charged with distributing heroin, a class B felony. Normally, the charge is associated with selling or making a controlled substance, but it also applies to distributing or delivering illegal drugs. His roommate, Andrew Eckert, was discovered dead in the house the two shared in the 500 block of Madison Avenue on Dec. 17. An April 9 St. Charles County Medical Examiners’ report said the cause of death was a heroin overdose. Officers found seven capsules Eckert’s dresser drawer, empty capsules and straws with white residue. The powder tested positive for heroin. …

Heroin is one of many poisons and kids feel it won't happen to …   more ›

Faith Matters

Discuss "Hereafter" Here and Now

The movie "Hereafter" offers a "reel-faith" plot line to jump start your discussion about life after death

Hereafter is the title of a recently released movie directed by Clint Eastwood. As a minister, the title was enough to get me me into the theater. Books are written about heaven, pastors are asked questions about eternal life. I was curious to see what the director of Gran Torino and Million-Dollar Baby had to say about what happens when we die. Eastwood does not provide an answer or explanation. Instead he has three characters experience death in different ways. Each search for understanding or peace about their experience and only in the movies, meet by the ending credits. The first is Marie Le Lay. She is a professional woman, a French journalist who almost drowns during a tsunami on the last day of her tropical island vacation. We …
