The 2012 football season is in the books for most the Gateway Athletic Conference teams. Yes, it's time for another edition of the St. Charles County Athlete of the Week fan poll. Except this week has a twist. Instead of looking at the last week, we're looking at the entire season. Tell us in the poll below: Who was the top GAC football player in 2012? Shane Barrett—Fort Zumwalt East: The Lions sophomore quarterback had a solid first season leading the East offense. As a passer, Barrett was 80-for-169 for 1,441 yards and 17 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. Running the ball, Barrett was tied for the GAC Central in touchdowns with 13. He actually led the conference with 82 points scored thanks to two successful two-point conversions. …

The 2012 boys soccer season is in the books for all the Gateway Athletic Conference teams, but it's time to take a look back. Yes, it's time for another edition of the St. Charles County Athlete of the Week fan poll. Except this week has a twist. Instead of looking at the last week, we're looking at the entire season. Tell us in the poll below: Who was the top GAC boys soccer player in 2012? Jordan Stephens—Francis Howell: Francis Howell's Jordan Stephens was the top point getter in all of the GAC. Stephens was led the GAC South, all of the GAC with his 67 points. The majority of his points came from his 26 goals—best in the GAC. He also chipped in 15 assists for the Vikings. Dillon Bowman—Fort Zumwalt South: Fort Zumwalt South's Dillon Bowman may not have had the big numbers Thursday night against Zumwalt North, but he came through when it mattered. Bowman picked a 25-yard touchdown run in overtime and then successfully made the two-point conversion to give the Bulldogs a big Week 10 playoff win over the rival Panthers. Tell us in the poll below: Which St. Charles County football player had the best Week 9? Armand Keely—Orchard Farm: Orchard Farm pulled out a big win in the final moments on Friday night. The Eagles scored 14 fourth-quarter points to beat Clopton 27-26. The first score that started the comeback was a two-yard run by Armand Kelly. The TD was his second in the game. In total, Kelly carried the ball 21 times for 128 yards to power the Orchard Farm offense. A key player for the Lions? Sophomore quarterback Shane Barrett. Once again the dual-threat QB got things done through the air and on the ground. He ran the ball 22 times for 115 yards (5.2 yards per carry). Throwing the ball, he was 16-for-24 for 171 yards and four scores against just one interception. It's time for another edition of the St. Charles County Athlete of the Week fan poll. This week we turn our attention to the football field. Tell us in the poll below: Which St. Charles County football player had the best Week 7? Teddy Williamson—Fort Zumwalt West: Teddy Williamson had no problem finding the endzone on Friday night. In Zumwalt West's win against Howell Central, Williamson helped power the Jaguars' offense with four scores. He ran the ball 20 times in the contest and racked up 201 yards. Four of his runs went for scores—a 4-yard run in the first, a 5-yard run in the second and a pair of long runs in the third. The first was a 60-yard score; the second was a score from 80-yards out. Tell us in the poll below: Which St. Charles County football player had the best Week 6? Matt Etherton—Fort Zumwalt East: The Lions are 5-1 and got win No. 5 in a big win against rival Zumwalt South. The quarterback-receiver combo of Shane Barrett and Matt Etherton had a big game. Etherton had just four catches, but he made them count en route to 105 yards receiving. Three of his four catches went for scores—one from 19 yards, one from 56 yards out and another from 16 yards. It's time for another edition of the St. Charles County Athlete of the Week fan poll. This week we turn our attention to the football field. Tell us in the poll below: Which St. Charles County football player had the best Week 5? Brody Allen—Francis Howell Central: The Howell Central Spartans finally broke through and picked up a win in Week 5 and a large reason was the play of quarterback Brody Allen. In the Spartans 34-0 blanking of Howell North, Allen had his hands in two touchdowns—one with his arm and one with his legs. He was just 6-for-14 throwing the ball, but he did complete at 6-yard TD pass. He really showed off on the ground. With 16 carries, Allen racked up 123 yards (7.7 yards a carry). St. Charles County schools, for the most part, fared well this week on the gridiron thanks, in short, to some stellar plays made by tremendous athletes. This week in our St. Charles County Athlete of the Week, we ask you to vote for your favorite high school football playe. Tell us in the poll below: Which St. Charles County football player has had the best game over the weekend? Here are the nominees: Nick Glenn, Fort Zumwalt East: Glenned proved to be the difference-maker in Zumwalt East's 21-7 win over Cape Girardeau Central. Glenn chipped in with a sack, a tackle and an assist. But it was his 34-yard fumble recovery, which he took all the way to the endzone, that wound up being perhaps the biggest play in the game.
