The Foundry is looking for artists' ideas for the space.
The Foundry Art Center is looking for artist ideas for a new interactive art space in the Baue Family Children’s Gallery called Art Carousel. It will include gallery space for displaying childrens' artwork, art-making areas and stations, a reading corner, and many other “kid-centric” features. Art Carousel activities will be designed to provide families with a variety of contemporary visual and performing arts experiences, for children of all ages and abilities. The Art Carousel Call For Entry is open to all artists and educators 18 years and older. Projects must be original work suggested by the applicant. The 14th annual "festival of ice" event will feature ice sculptors at work, plus plenty of entertainment, food and family activities.
The 14th annual Fête De Glace Ice Carving competition will be in historic St. Charles on Saturday. The free event will be held on North Main Street, between Jefferson and Monroe Streets, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Penny Pittman, president of the Historic Downtown Association and co-chair of Fête de Glace, said the day will start with team ice carving around 9:30 a.m. Each team will use five blocks of ice, resulting in one “monster carving” per team. The ice carvers bring their art to life using a bevy of tools that includes chainsaws, power grinders, sanders, handsaws and knives, hot irons and cold spray. Pittman said a favorite monster carving was a Roman gladiator, complete with shield and “a great big plume on his helmet,” about 8 feet …

The Foundry Art Centre is holding its fifth annual Big Red Box, an art show and sale, on Dec. 2 and 3.
Want to give a gift that’s a little outside the box this year while supporting local artists? More than 20 juried artists from The Best of Missouri Hands will be on hand Dec. 2 and 3 at the Foundry Art Centre for the fifth annual Big Red Box, an art show and sale of “giftable” holiday items. The Best of Missouri Hands, a nonprofit organization representing artists throughout the state of Missouri, will provide 8-foot-by-10-foot booths for the artists to display their wares. The Friday night reception will feature music from the St. Louis Classical Guitar Society from 7 to 9 p.m. All purchased items will be gift-wrapped free. The Make Believe Arts Centre in St. Charles offers classes for children of all ages.
If your New Year's resolution was to get more involved with the arts, then you might want to check out the Make Believe Theatre and Arts Centre. Beth and Phil Duello, of St. Charles, opened the business on June 1, 2010. There, they offer a variety of art classes for students from preschool to adult. "We've been involved with the arts for as long as I can remember," Phil said. "We met while performing with the Patt Holt Singers." Beth has been teaching choral music since 1983. She currently directs choirs at Hazelwood West Middle School and the St. Charles Borromeo Church. She has sung professionally on the Muny stage, the Goldenrod Showboat and with the Patt Holt Singers.
