Culinary Students Compete in Cooking Contest for Job at Prasino

Art Institute of St. Louis students participated in cooking competition for a chance to work at new eco-friendly restaurant.

Eight teams of culinary students from the Art Institute of St. Louis went head-to-head in a cooking competition Friday. All were vying for the opportunity to put a dish on the menu of Prasino, the new eco-friendly restaurant going in the Streets of St. Charles development at Fifth Street and Interstate 70. Prasino teamed with the Art Institute of St. Louis on the cooking contest to offer students a way to integrate their classroom experience into the real world. “This is definitely a way we can create a relationship with the Art Institute and allow students to do a stage, an unpaid time in the kitchen, done for experience," Prasino Executive Chef Jared Case said. Thousands of Gowns: Metro St. Louis Cinderella Project Sets Up at Mid Rivers Mall

Students from the Art Institute of St. Louis helped get the boutique set up at Mid Rivers Mall. Starting next week, high school students in need will be able to choose a prom dress.

Ben Trotter, 22, tried to organize an armful of glittery, beaded prom dresses by color at the Metro St. Louis Cinderella boutique in Mid Rivers Mall Tuesday. Trotter was one of several students from the Art Institute of St. Louis in St. Charles who came out to help set up the boutique. During the next two weeks, girls who would not otherwise have the chance to go to prom will get to pick out a prom dress for free. More than 200 students recommended by their counselors will get first pick of the more than 2,000 dresses donated by the public. Business News: Art Institute to Hold Grand Opening Celebration

School is among the first businesses to open up at the Streets of St. Charles project.

The Art Institute of St. Louis will host a grand opening celebration at noon July 24. Classes started at the school on July 9. The school is among the first businesses to open in the Streets of St. Charles project, along with the Wamhoff Financial Services. In addition, Tucanos Churrascaria and Prasino and Five Guys Burgers and Fries are three restaurants which are expected to open in the project.  St. Charles City Council approved a liquor license for Nick's Pub, which will be located at 2865 Veterans Memorial Parkway, in the former Lone Star Steakhouse and Saloon.
