Conversation With The Congresswoman-Elect: Wagner Talks Transition & Working In Washington

Representative-Elect Ann Wagner answered more Patch user questions and talked about the work being done to prepare as she's sworn into office next month

Visitors to 14551 Manchester Rd., Ballwin, MO 63011 will notice the level of activity there is not up to the level it was just a few weeks ago. In fact, the walls in the campaign office of now Congresswoman-Elect Ann Wagner are now barren, save for the maps she carried around during campaign appearances to explain the boundaries of Missouri's new Second Congressional district. But while the campaign apparatus will wind down as soon as this week, Team Wagner is still plenty busy. As soon as the Ballwin Republican's victory over Democrat Glenn Koenen was assured November 6, another campaign began, this time for a leadership position. She was voted by her freshman colleagues to be their voice with GOP house leaders. Next up was getting a …

>>>“I’m not going to stay in the office. That I know for sure,” she told Patch in a Thursday interview, noting that about a third of the male members of Congress sleep in their offices. I thought these "principled conservatives" tried to keep costs low by bunking it or sleeping in their offices. Government waste!   more ›

Congresswoman-Elect Talks Fiscal Cliff, Grover Norquist & Taxes

The next U.S. Representative for Missouri's 2nd District, Ann Wagner answered Patch users' questions in a Thursday afternoon interview

The tweet came down Thursday from House Majority Leader U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va): "The House will not adjourn the 112th Congress until a credible solution to the fiscal cliff has been announced." As negotiations to avert deep automatic spending cuts and tax increases beginning January 1, House Speaker John Boehner and President Barack Obama met at the White House Thursday. Representative-Elect Ann Wagner, meanwhile, is one of 70 incoming freshman in the 113th session, sitting interested, waiting in the wings. The Ballwin Republican sat down with Patch Thursday afternoon in her former campaign headquarters to answer questions about the fiscal cliff, and to answer questions posed by Patch users. Fiscal Cliff Wagner said she's …

Ann Wagner Calls Jotte Campaign's Debate Challenge "Shameful"

The GOP frontrunner in the race for Missouri's Second Congressional District says she's focused on debating voters in the waning days of the primary campaign. One of her opponents says he's been trying to arrange a debate since March.

With two weeks left before the August 7 primary, candidates are scrambling to reach out to every possible vote, attending event after event and forum after forum. But time is running out for candidates to appear at the same time and in the same place. In the 2nd congressional district Republican primary, the last such opportunity may have taken place Tuesday, when Ann Wagner and Dr. Randy Jotte spoke at a St. Louis County Republican Women’s forum. While they talked health care, energy, and the economy, the most heated portion of the forum came as the candidates argued over campaign tactics in the closing days. Jotte claims he’s been seeking a debate since March, through press releases and contacts between the campaigns. Recently, he took …

Political Report

Did the Wagner Campaign Forget It Has a Primary Opponent?

In a recent email to Washington, DC, lobbyists, a fundraising worker for the campaign left out the fact that the Wagner has a little GOP competition in the race for the 2nd District seat for Congress.

According to her primary opponent, Randy Jotte, it seems Ann Wagner's campaign forgot she has an opponent in the primary — an oversight the campaign acknowledged, blaming a fundraising worker in Washington, DC. Jotte, of Webster Groves, forwarded Patch a Feb. 8 email from one of Wagner's campaign team members regarding Wagner's upcoming visit to Washington, D.C. The email reads in part: I wanted to see if you are available to help Ann Wagner out on her next trip to DC – we have a few events as well as 1-1 coffee times available. Her primary opponent got out of the race last month and along with her excellent fundraising numbers from last quarter has put Ann in a great spot to win this seat for MO-02. She has over $1 million cash on hand …

Participate 2012: Martin Bows Out of Congressional Race

Martin to challenge Chris Koster for Missouri Attorney General.

Two days after a Webster Groves doctor made the 2nd Congressional district Republican primary a three candidate race, the contest is back down to two in the running. Thursday morning, St. Louis attorney Ed Martin announced he would drop out of the GOP primary for Congress and instead challenge Chris Koster to become the state's top lawyer. Feeding off of his near-victory against Rep. Russ Carnahan (D-St. Louis) in 2010, Martin had support in his bid to succeed Rep. Todd Akin (R-Wildwood), but has lagged considerably in fundraising compared to former RNC Co-Chair Ann Wagner, who has also lined up endorsements from national Republican figures, including John Ashcroft, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Former Arkansas Governor and …

ER Doc Announces Run for GOP Nomination In Congressional Race

Randy Jotte, of Webster Groves, says the nation must "get off the merry-go-round" to solve problems.

Randy Jotte, an emergency room doctor at Barnes Jewish Hospital, has officially announced plans to run for the Republican nomination in the race for the second congressional district. Jotte, who is also an associate professor of Emergency Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine, made the announcement during a news conference this morning at the St. Louis Carousel at Faust Park, in Chesterfield. "The Washington, D.C. politicians are taking us around and around, going nowhere," Jotte said, and gesturing toward the historic carousel behind him. "Our country is suffering. We're ready to stop the merry-go-round," he said. The Webster Groves native is joining former RNC Co-Chair Ann Wagner and Attorney Ed Martin in the race for the …

Jotte joins former RNC Co-Chair Ann Wagner and Attorney Ed Martin, both of whom have been in the race for months. The seat is being left vacant by U.S. Rep. Randy Jotte to Announce Soon If He's In or Out of Race for Congress

In the race for Missouri's 2nd Congressional District, conservative Ann Wagner and Tea Party favorite Ed Martin may soon be joined by the more socially moderate Dr. Randy Jotte. He said Thursday night he'd announce shortly and publicly.

Two conservative Republicans are in the race for Missouri’s 2nd District Congressional seat, the seat that Todd Akin is giving up. A third Republican may soon be vying for the nomination. Ann Wagner and Ed Martin, both in the race for months, may soon be joined by Dr. Randy Jotte, Webster Groves resident, who has launched a website announcing that he’s considering the leap. All three were at a forum sponsored by Republican Club of Tesson Ferry at the Cliff Cave Branch of the St. Louis Public Library. Despite the frigid night, about a hundred came to far South County to hear the Republicans running for various offices. Wagner and Martin had been invited to speak, and Jotte came to listen, chat, and get the lay of the land. (Wagner had been …
