Businesses like the Bike Stop Cafe in St. Charles will have to post signs stating whether smoking is permitted or prohibited inside by January 2014.

I am not a smoker and have always been against government telling a private business what they canRead More or can't do when it comes to this issue. Further , I think the city council could have suggested putting signs up or went to the chamber of commerce, etc. I believe most businesses would comply because I think this information for a customer is good to know before they make a choice. Sorry, I can only go that far. I can't say I support passing ord like this.

I've got nothing against the idea of such signs, but it's always struck me as kind of funny that theRead More same Antismokers who will say that a single smoker lighting a cigarette in a restaurant instantly ruins the dinners of everyone in the restaurant, and who claim that smoke traveling across a field, or from another apartment, or even from another floor of a hotel or office building makes the air unfit to breathe even if the smoker had only smoked there at some point in the distant past... ... these people are somehow now unable to tell that when they open a door to a place filled with smokers and ashtrays that anyone is smoking in there until they've wandered in, walked around, and taken great lungfuls of this suddenly invisible, odorless, but nonetheless deadly smoke-filled air, maybe even after sitting down, perusing the menu, and ordering their fare? Are people who are THAT out of touch with reality actually going to SEE signs on doors and be able to read them?
