Volunteers Needed to Deliver Christmas Meals

American Legion Post hosts an annual Christmas dinner for anyone in the community, but more volunteers are needed.

Frank Hotmer expects to serve close to 660 people a hot holiday dinner on Christmas Day.

But he needs a little bit of help.

The n St. Charles offers a free Christmas meal of ham, turkey, mashed potatoes and corn, stuffing and green beans to community members. The meal comes with a side of music from a performer who does standards from the 1950s and '60s.

In the past, the Legion has served elderly and the homeless.

"If they need somewhere to get a meal for Christmas, they've got somewhere to go," he said.

The group also plans to deliver a hot meal to more than 130 people who are homebound.

But as of noon on Friday, Hotmer had just 19 people signed up to volunteer. Hotmer said he needs more volunteers between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., and in particular needs people to help with clean up.

"A lot of my deliverers, I haven't gotten any response from them this year," Hotmer said. "I'd hate to leave people out who are counting on this."

To volunteer, plan to show up at the American Legion Post at 2500 Raymond Drive in St. Charles on Christmas Day.

"If people show up out here, I can find something for them to do," he said.
