New History Camp offered at First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site

"Hands-on History Adventure Day Camp," is an opportunity for your campers to have five fun-filled days of exploring Missouri's history with interactive experiences and a knowledgeable staff. Campers will learn 1800's era skills, crafts and, of course, history.
The camp will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., June 4-8 and is for children ages 8 to 11. It will be held at the , 200 South Main Street, St. Charles, Missouri.
Missouri Day: Campers learn about our great state's history, take a tour of the site and meet/explore some of Missouri's state symbols.

Westward Discovery Day: Campers will pitch a canvas tent, cook over a campfire, make rope and discover how explorers like Lewis and Clark spent their time. Campers will learn to barter like traders did in the past.
Pioneer Living Day: Campers will see how daily life was lived in 1820's Missouri by learning chores & games, and meeting some of the animals that helped pioneer families become sustainable.

History Detective Day: Campers will learn how historians and archaeologists use their skills to discover history's mysteries. Map reading, a main street scavanger hunt, archaeology activities and working with some of the artifacts will allow campers to explore careers in history.
Show Me Day: Parents are invited to join their child for a period lunch cooked by their campers. Campers will show their parents what they have learned. Be prepared to play period games with your future historian.
Cost: $100 plus a $20.00 registration fee. (Tshirt/bag and other goodies included)
Registration begins on Thursday, March 1. Call the site for forms and more information at 636-940-3322. Campers will need to bring a lunch each day except for Friday. Space limited to 25 campers.
