Free Family Event Celebrates St. Charles' French History

Come celebrate St. Charles' French heritage at our St. Jean Baptiste Day Celebration!

This month is exciting at the First Missouri State Capitol SHS.  We had our very first Hands-on-History Camp.  It was wildly successful and the campers loved learning history in a format that was fun and engaging.  We have our Show Me State Parks Programs which bring inner-city kids to state parks.  Our Great American 1820's Backyard Campout is on June 23 from noon until 6pm.  You can learn how people "camped" in the 1820's and do some of the activities.

We also have the only event that celebrates St. Charles' French heritage.  On June 24, we celebrate St. Jean Baptiste Day, this is an evening of games, bonfires, cannons and a concert by the Buckhannon Brothers that highlight the French roots of Les Petit Cotes.  Bring your picnic dinner, lawn chairs and enjoy this evening along the Missouri River.

We hope you will join us for any of these events and let us know if you are interested in seeing a particular event in the future!
