Kensington, Md. – Pascal Tessier might be the first openly gay Eagle Scout.

Tessier, who had been outspoken in advocating the Boy Scouts of America lift a ban on gay members, earned the rank this week, reports WISTV.com. The scouts lifted its ban on gay members Jan. 1.

While there is no official tracking of gay members, Tessier is likely the nation's first openly gay Eagle approved under the new policy, according to the advocacy group Scouts for Equality.

Although the ban against gay scout members was lifted, a ban against gay leaders remains. It's a ban Tessier plans to challenge. "On my 18th birthday, I'm planning on applying to be an adult leader for the Boy Scouts so that we push the issue," he told.

Tessier, 17, and his Bethesda-Chevy Chase Boy Scout Troop held a demonstration earlier this year at the National Capital Area Council of Boy Scouts, demanding that openly gay youth be admitted to the BSA, reports NBC Washington.

Last spring, as a junior at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, Tessier spoke with the national media as Boy Scout national leaders were considering changing the policy. He told The Washington Post he would be "devastated" if he were not allowed to earn Eagle Scout status because of his sexuality.

He told CBS News This Morning it was time that the Boy Scouts lifted the ban.

"Simply because you've been teaching something for a long amount of time doesn't mean it's right," he said.

Tessier said he was glad he would still be able to call himself a Boy Scout and become an Eagle Scout, but he said he would remain an activist on the issue.

"There's so much more to do," he told CBS News. "I'm not stopping. That's for sure."

President Obama and gay rights groups nationwide supported lifting the ban and the Tessier family spoke against the ban in an earlier video interview with the BBC.

He told the Post his experience as a Scout has been life-changing and he "wouldn’t be the person I am today without the Boy Scouts."

"Simply because you've been teaching something for a long amount of time doesn't mean it's right," he said. Nor does it make it wrong. Next up: Transgenders. http://www.thesubtimes.com/letter-to-the-editor-next-up-transgenders/

I would be very interested in seeing how the membership in the BSA has declined due to the Jan. 1 changes. While some may see this as improving scouting as a whole, it has decimated the membership. Based on that decline, making further changes can only harm the organization's membership totals further. While some would see these changes as improving the organization, it won't be long before the smaller membership rolls will require the BSA to do some serious cost-cutting, and elimination of many excellent resources. This can't be good for either the BSA or the scouts.

I remember when the scrub scouts used to wear those hilarious uniforms to school. Seems like the whole thing is a bit gay to me. May as well let people be open about it.

Easy, just form the GBSA- The Gay Boy Scouts of America, and then as their own group, they could get their own funding, problem solved. ?????

It's just this kids way of shoving the gay agenda down these young inpressionable kids mouth. Pushing this is wrong!

does anybody know if it's true or not about them selling TWINKIES door to door like the girl scouts sell cookies????
michael February 13, 2014 at 11:37 AM
@Shif- "The gay agenda" can you please elaborate on exactly what that is? Or what other than being accepted and having the same rights as everyone else does is in that agenda?
Tommy Noble February 13, 2014 at 01:47 PM
The "gay agenda" - to turn the keep Cher and Barbara Streisand's careers relevant.
jag February 13, 2014 at 02:23 PM
lol @ Pauly. Yeah, separate but equal. That's not a horrific and backwards notion at all....
Shif February 14, 2014 at 09:40 AM
Michael. It has nothing to do with equal rights. Everyone has that right and I firmly believe that. But the gay agenda is being pushed by way to many and some people don't agree with it and don't want our children exposed to it (BSA numbers are down). Why should the agenda of a very small amount of people be shoved down the mouths of people who don't believe or like it? If you don't think this is true, just watch the Olympics, read a news paper or (even worse) watch tv. It's disgusting!
michael February 14, 2014 at 12:57 PM
@shif- #1- You did not answer my question. What exactly is "the gay agenda" because you are claiming to be quite knowledgeable about a groups cause that you obviously do not belong to. #2- If you truly believe that it has nothing to do with equal rights, and "everyone has that right" then you really need to get out of your bubble. #3- though the BSA numbers may be down right now that does not mean that they will stay that way. And the only reason they are down is because of ignorant people, PLAIN AND SIMPLE. #4- As for children being exposed, what exactly are they being exposed to? That love can be between not only a man and a woman but dare i say a man and a man or a woman and a woman? Also do you have children? #5- Do you understand how those in Russia who are gay are treated? And that by way of making a big deal at the Olympics Russia is being put under multi-national scrutiny and hopefully they will change their attitudes?

Because the Bible says it's wrong. Just the Bible says that eating pork is wrong, that eating shellfish is wrong, that wearing clothes of blended fabrics is wrong, that getting tattoos is wrong, that touching a football is wrong (via not being able to touch a pig), that drinking alcohol in a holy place is wrong (uh-oh Catholics), that going to church within 33 days of giving birth to a boy is wrong, that going to church within 66 days of giving birth to a girl is wrong, that trimming your beard is wrong, and a whole host of other things that you should also be against if you are to follow the Bible. Read Leviticus. It's in the Bible you claim love so much - you know the part that Jesus believed in before he became American.

shif- if they were given equal right it wouldnt be "shoved down our throats". were women shoving it down your throat when they protested for the right to vote? were african americans shoving it down your throat when they fought for equal rights? if they were just treated equally they wouldnt have anything to protest. dont want your children exposed to it, are you that poor of a parent that you cant sit down and discuss it with your children? yea lets deny a percentage of americans equal rights because shif doesnt want to sit down with his kids for 10 mins and explain homosexuality to his kids.

@Shif: You were asked what you believe the gay agenda to be. The total movement is twofold, there is the agenda and there is a vehicle that is used to accomplish that agenda. This is not unique to the gay issue. The "vehicle" used is the coercive power of the state, the force of government to compel you to abandon your own morality. The "agenda" is to require you by law, to adopt the morality of someone else.
michael February 14, 2014 at 06:36 PM
@Tommy- LOL no kidding!!! The bible says not to do so many things yet people do them every day!! I do believe in god but i DO NOT and will never believe in following a 3000 year old book wholeheartedly. To me that is just idiotic. The bible to so many people is almost like an assorted box of chocolates they take what they like and ignore what they do not... And the bible also tell us so many things about love, forgiveness, not passing judgement, that sin is sin but do they remember these things when claiming that the bible says "gay marriage is an abomination" nooo (which the bible doesnt even say that)
STAR dot STAR February 14, 2014 at 07:14 PM
For the record: Christian Bible, King James Authorized Version. Leviticus 20:13 "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have commited an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them."
michael February 14, 2014 at 07:48 PM
@star- For the record I know exactly what the bible verse says. Still does not clear cut say "homosexuality" And as for "The "agenda" is to require you by law, to adopt the morality of someone else" First of all "morality" is a word made up by Christians of something that is inherent in most people to make themselves feel better. And secondly to say that anyone is asking you to "adopt the morality of someone else" can that not be said about the people opposing gay marriage? Are they not forcing their beliefs on other people? What I don't understand is why its anyone's business, If you don't like gay marriage don't get married to another person of the same sex. And don't pay attention to it.
Tommy Noble February 14, 2014 at 07:48 PM
Yep. Seems like a legit way to live when you also believe that a dude rounded up every living land-dwelling being and put it on a giant boat that he and his family built. Also, when you believe that the earth is just a few thousand years old and that genocide, rape, and polygamy are all okay when sanctioned by your imaginary friend in the sky.
michael February 14, 2014 at 07:54 PM
@Tommy- hahahahahahahahahahaha. I just laughed so hard!
