Women & Success

As I'm trolling the world wide web I find interesting articles sometimes.  Not always but sometimes.  Recently I came across this article- 19 Things That Mean 'Success' For Women  It reminded me of some recent conversations I've had with women entrepreneurs.  Most of them talking about how unsuccessful they were, how they had so much more to do and accomplish.  Most of these women when I looked at them I would describe as successful.

This article just reminded me that what I define as successful is not the same as others.  My practice is not as busy as I'm looking for it to be.  I have a lot to learn about marketing a private practice when I do not take any insurance.  I'm learning to sort through the true experts on marketing and the self proclaimed experts.  My office manager and I aim to schedule clients who will most benefit from the work I do.  That to me is part of my definition of success.  Seeing clients and creating a transformative, healing experience for them.

There are therapists/counselors who will see any and all clients.  But to assume that as a counselor you will have a positive impact on everyone that walks through your door is unrealistic.  Let's face it not everyone gets along with everyone.  The same goes for clients and counselors.  Not everyone is a good match.  And further more RRT is not always a good match for the issue someone may be dealing with.  That's why my office manager and I spend some time on the phone asking questions and getting to know potential clients so we can make a better professional assessment on whether or not RRT and myself are a good fit for said client.

In doing so yes my practice is slower than what I'm looking for it to be.  However more clients are walking out of my door satisfied and making referrals.  That to me is a HUGE sign of success...when previous clients refer their family, friends, and co-workers.

Give that article a read, meditate and ponder on what really defines success for you!!
