Five Ways to Spend National Get Outdoors Day June 9

Take a bicycle tour of Forest Park, pick some fresh fruit or explore a new park.

National Get Outdoors Day is June 9 and it's a day designed to get people off of their couches into the great outdoors. The weather June 9 is expected to be sunny with a high near 90, according to weather.gov.

Here are a few ways you could choose to spend the day:

  • Head to the Gateway Arch. Between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., there will be bicycle tours, a rock climbing wall, fishing classes and exercises classes available under the arch. You can also learnabout healthy lifestyles and foods by perusing the booths. VISA championships and the St. Louis Sports Commission are hosting a one-hour boot camp class at 8 a.m. Learn more here.
  • Pick some fresh fruit.There are a number of places where you can go pick fruit within an hours drive of St. Louis.

  • Explore a new park. St. Charles County opened Towne Park in Wentzville on May 14. The park features a reconstructed 1800s historical homestead, a nature explore classroom; paved and natural surface trails; a large fishing pond; picnic areas, playgrounds and rain gardens. Towne Park is located at On Highway 61, approximately six miles north of I-70.
    • Watch Shakespeare in the park: Pack a picnic and head to Forest Park to take in Othello under the stars. The play starts at 8 p.m., but plan to arrive early enough to grab a good seat. . 
    • Enjoy a local water park: Spread on some sunscreen and slide down a 4-story slide at Wapelhorst Park.
