Team hopes to improve on the 14-10 record from last season.

With the start of spring upon us, St. Charles' area athletic programs are buzzing with activity as teams have been picked, lineups are being finalized and girls and coaches are preparing for the upcoming season.

St. Charles has an especially talented set of high school girls varsity soccer teams, and all of them have the talent to make a push for deep runs in the district and state tournaments at the end of the season.

This week we'll offer a preview of the , , , and Orchard Farm High girls soccer teams.

2010 Record: 14-10 (4th place GAC North)

Head Coach: Rodney Orrick

Key Positions: Goalkeeper: To be determined in tryouts. Defender: Emily White. Orrick describes her as "an excellent reader of the game." Scorers: Autumn Ollendorf and Erica Teson, both returning stars looking to continue promising careers.

Expectations: Orrick expects that the team will compete for the conference after a strong season last year. "We want to have a breakout year," he said.

Key Games: St. Charles West is the team's biggest rival, and Duchesne always makes for a tough battle, Orrick said. Outside of these two, Trinity High is a team they will play in the regular season and expect to meet late in the district tournament.

Trinity Catholic High School: 6:15 p.m. April 27 (home)

Duchesne: 6 p.m. May 5 (home)

St. Charles West: 6 p.m. May 9 (away)

Overview:

Coming off a season that ended in a solid 14-10 record, this Pirates team will be looking to make the leap and be a break-out team even with the losses of some key players. Last season ended in a tough manner with a hard-fought 3-1 defeat at the hands of a Visitation team that went on to win the state tournament.

The biggest loss from last year is that of second team All-Conference goalkeeper Emily Wilson. Orrick said that the position is the most undetermined on the roster and will be a tough one to replace.

Also, the team is young, with only four seniors, and will be expecting contributions from its younger players, especially freshman talent Ellen Weaver. Expect them to be in the running for a late season push.

First game: 6:45 p.m. March 18 at Washington High School
