Postseason Preview: Area Teams Take Aim at State Titles

The next three weeks will feature postseason competition across each of the spring sports.

The next three weeks will feature postseason competition across each of the spring sports. Here is a preview and quick-hit look at where St. Charles-area teams will be playing over the next several days:

DISTRICT GIRLS SOCCER

Class 3 District 7, at Francis Howell

Francis Howell North will play the winner of Tuesday’s Fort Zumwalt East-Howell Central match in the district semifinals at 5 p.m. on Wednesday. The district final will played at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Howell North is the district’s top seed, and has a 14-6-1 record. The Knights finished second in the Gateway Athletic Conference at 5-2, behind Zumwalt West (4-1). Senior Kelsey Fouch led Howell North this season with 15 goals.

Class 2 District 6, at St. Charles

Second-seeded St. Charles will host Jennings at 7 p.m. on Monday. The other district semifinal will feature top-seeded Trinity against McCluer South-Berkeley. St. Charles is 12-10, including 1-5 in the GAC North. Pacing the Pirates offense this season is junior Erika Teson with 22 goals and sophomore striker Autumn Olendorff with 19 goals. Sophomore midfielder Abby Wootten has 19 assists.

Class 2 District 8, at St. Dominic

Top-seeded St. Dominic will host No. 4 Warrenton at noon on Saturday. The Crusaders are 17-6 and won the Archdiocesan Athletic Association at 7-0. Leading the charge for the state-title hopeful team has been sophomore Cristina Rodriguez with 14 goals. Freshman goalkeeper Megan Swanson has an amazing 13 shutouts.

Second-seeded St. Charles West plays Duchesne at 10 a.m. on Saturday. St. Charles West is 15-5 and won the GAC North with a 7-0 record. Aleesa Mays has been the Warriors’ offensive star with 12 goals. The district final will be at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Class 1 District 7, at Orchard Farm

Top-seeded Orchard Farm will host O'Fallon Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The winner will play the winner of the match between second-seeded Barat-Lutheran St. Charles at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Orchard Farm is 13-7 and has been led by the tandem of Alexis Robbers (24 goals) and Brooke Burckhardt with 20 goals.

DISTRICT BASEBALL

Class 3 District 6 at Winfield

Orchard Farm is the No. 3 seed, and will play No. 6 O’Fallon-Christian (10-11) at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Second-seeded Winfield (18-3) plays No. 7 Duchesne (0-23) at 3 p.m.

The semifinal games will be at 4:30 and 7 p.m. on Monday.

Class 4, District 7 at Parkway Central

Second-seeded Francis Howell North hosts St. Charles, a 7 seed, at noon on Saturday. Howell North is 17-11 and has been led by Mike Wilson and Braxton Martinez. Wilson is batting .561 and has 46 hits and 13 doubles. Martinez is hitting .526 with seven home runs and 40 runs batted in. St. Charles has been paced by Matt Glanzner (.427 average) and Matt Mitchell, who is batting .416 with a team-high five homers and 19 RBI.

The semifinals and title game will be held at the district host site. 

Class 4, District 8 at Fort Zumwalt West

St. Charles West, the No. 7 seed, will play second-seeded Francis Howell Central at noon on Saturday. If West wins, they would play again at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors are 9-18.

STATE GOLF

Three area golfers will be competing in the state golf tournament next Monday and Tuesday. At the Class 4 tourney at Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield, Mo., Clint Toedtman from Francis Howell North will compete.

At the Class 3 state meet at Silo Ridge Golf Course in Bolivar, MO, Chris Percy from St. Charles West and Christopher Pestka from Duchesne will contend.
