Orchard Farm Prepares for State Championship

Team will face St. Vincent on Friday.

FENTON - The Orchard Farm girls soccer team will have its work cut out at the Missouri State Soccer Championships this weekend.    

The Eagles (17-7) face powerful St. Vincent (21-4) of Perryville in a semifinal game Friday at 11 a.m. at the Anheuser-Busch Center in Fenton.    

Defending champion Springfield Catholic (21-4) faces Pembroke Hill (13-13) in the other semifinal on Friday.

The semifinal winners meet for the state championship Saturday at noon. The semifinal losers face off in the third-place game at 11 a.m.    

The Eagles are making their first-ever appearance in the Final Four. It marks the first time that any athletic team from the St. Charles County school has reached the state semifinals.

Juniors Alexis Robbers and Brooke Burckhardt lead the team with 30 and 24 goals respectively.    

St. Vincent finished third in the state last year with a 23-3 mark. The Mustangs are on a major roll. They have won their last seven matches by a combined 22-2. They have recorded five successive shutouts.    

"We know that if we play the way we're capable of playing, we can stay on the field with anybody," said Orchard Farm coach Brandon Cox.    

St. Vincent freshman Katie Mattingly is one of the top goalies in the state. The Mustangs have allowed only 16 goals all season.
