Notebook: Many Area Golfers Advance Past Districts

The St. Charles West golf team turned in a high-quality performance at the Class 3 District 4 tournament.

The golf team turned in a high-quality performance at the Class 3 District 4 tournament at the Innsbrook Golf Course in Innsbrook, Mo last Thursday. The Warriors finished fourth out of 11 teams with an overall score of 357, 19 strokes behind first-place Moberly. Three individuals qualified for state sectionals next Wednesday. Chris Percy and Kevin Averett each shot an 83 to tie for eighth place, while Matthew Flavin placed 14th with a score of 89.

The St. Charles West girls soccer team is 12-2 overall, including a 6-0 mark in the Gateway Athletic Conference North. The Warriors defeated Warrenton, 4-0, on Thursday and will play at St. Dominic (13-3) on Monday at 6:15 p.m., followed by a match at Fort Zumwalt North on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Junior Aleesa Mays continues to pace the West offensive attack as she leads the Warriors with 11 goals.

The High golf team placed seventh at Innsbrook with a score of 370. Adam Minter shot a 90 to finish 17th overall and teammate Clayton Tredway shot a 91 to place 18th. Each qualified for sectionals.

Duchesne struggled overall as a team, but did qualify two sectional golfers. Christopher Pestka shot an 80 to place fourth overall at the Class 3 District 4 tournament, while Michael Nash, shot a 92 to place 18th.

The Orchard Farm golf team finished fifth out of 11 schools at the Class 2 District 2 tournament at The Landings at Spirit Golf Course in Chesterfield, Mo. The Eagles had a final score of 400, 74 shots behind first-place Whitfield, which won by 23 strokes. Orchard Farm had three golfers qualify for sectionals. Trevor Finders and Dustin Mann each shot a 95 to tie for 13th place, while teammate Neal Lyon shot a 102 to place 20th overall.

Francis Howell North baseball tried to slow down red-hot Francis Howell (21-2), but fell short in a 2-1 loss on Saturday. is 14-8 and will host another powerhouse team on Monday when the Knights play Oakville at 4:15 p.m. They will play at Howell Central (15-4) on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.

Howell North’s potent offense continues to be led by Braxton Martinez, who is batting .524 with seven home runs and 38 runs batted in. Mike Wilson is hitting .603 with a team-leading 38 hits, 11 doubles and 25 RBI.
