The Francis Howell Central Spartans had a rough time Saturday afternoon in Hillsboro, losing 61-43 to the Festus Tigers in the consolation championship of the Gene Steighorst Tournament.
The loss dropped the Spartans’ record to 1 and 2.
Senior Terel Tipton led the Spartans in scoring with 18 points, and Justin Hayden, a junior, had 10 points.
Central was missing two key players from their line up as Derrick Puni and Ryan Howard, both seniors, are dealing with injuries.
In the opening round of the tournament, the Spartans lost to tournament runner-up Seckman 65-56. That was followed by a 64-36 victory over the Windsor Owls in the consolation bracket, before yesterday’s loss to Festus.

Monday and Tuesday nights, they will host the Fort Zumwalt East Lions and Parkway Central Colts respectively. That will be followed by a Friday night game at Francis Howell (the first conference game for both teams).
