Consistency Will Be Key For FHN Boy's Basketball Team

Coach says he'll rely on seniors Andre Wooten, Clint Toedtmann and Dan McGraw.

With the start of the 2010-11 boy's basketball season underway, the Knights are looking to improve on last season's 10-16 mark with a record of 1-5 in the Gateway Athletic Conference.

For head coach Bill Moyer, the key to success for the Knights this year will be consistency and getting several players healthy for the start of the season.

"It's hard to tell with these guys because some days we're looking good and other days we're not," Moyer said. "We have a lot of football players that were hurt at the start of practice and we're just getting them back to 100 percent right now."

Senior guard/forward Andre Wooten returns to the Knights' lineup as the team's leading scoring threat after averaging 8.2 points and 1.2 rebounds a game during the 2009-10 campaign. Wooten also racked up 17 assists, six steals and two blocked shots while nailing down 44 of 46 from the floor.

"We're hoping that he's more consistent with his mid-range jump shot this season," Moyer said. "I believe that his strength is pretty much going to be his defense and his mid range game this season."

Another senior guard/forward that the Knights will rely on heavily is Clint Toedtmann. Last year Toedtmann averaged 7.5 points and 1.3 rebounds a game. A strong perimter player, he scored 15 basketas from three-point range.

"Clint's main strength is his outside shooting," Moyer said. "He's going to be our main perimeter threat this season, but it also looks as if he's also willing to take it to the basket and that should help open things up for everyone."

Senior Dan McGraw will man the center position after averaging 4.8 points and 0.8 rebounds a game during 2009-10.

"Dan's going to be in a platoon situation for us where he'll get a lot of playing time this season," Moyer said. "We're going to need for him to rebound well because most of his game is in the paint."

Point guard Steve Raines returns to Francis Howell North after spending the last two seasons out of basketball living in Belleville, Ill.

"Steve was here for his freshman year and then spent two years over in Belleville," Moyer said. "He's extremely quick and athletic and we're glad to have him back."

Moyer also looks forward to seeing junior forwards Ryan Jeppesen and Braxton Martinez come off the bench for the Knights.

"Ryan posts up extremely well and can also take the perimeter shot," Moyer said. "Braxton is more of an inside player that likes to bang around in the paint. He'll give us more of an inside presence this year."
