Student-Built House For Sale in St. Charles

The n approved hiring Meyer Real Estate to sell the house built by Lewis and Clark Career Center students at 26 Expedition Court.

Meyer Real Estate will get a 5 percent commission from the sale of the house, which is expected to be priced in the low $300,000s. The commission could be around $15,000. 

Superintendent Randy Charles said in 2008, the student-built house didn't sell and sat for a year on the market. By May of 2009, students had finished another house so the district contracted with Meyer Real Estate who sold both houses in a few months, Charles said. 

He said they went through the bid process in 2009 for a real estate agency. According to district policies, purchases of $15,000 or more are based on competitive quotations or prices. Charles likened a real estate agent to an attorney, once you find someone you trust, you stick with him or her. 

"Last year we listed with them and I know they are already fielding offers for this one," he said. 

This year, the district will have some competition. Another house is also listed on the market.
