St. Charles West Video Wins State Award

School used the $2,000 prize to purchase iPads to help students with disabilities communicate.

A video showing the ways students with disabilities are included in activities at St. Charles West High School was selected as the grand prize winner in a competition sponsored by the Missouri Developmental Disabilities Council.

The video, which was directed by student Tyler Reynolds, includes a song written and performed by Mariah Broeker. It was one of 18 submitted to the council.

Several students who participate in activities like cheerleading and football are featured in the video. It also shows photos from events sponsored by the All of Us Club, an after school club for students with and without disabilities. Students participate in one activity and one club meeting each month. Activities range from attending a dance to sports events and participating in Special Olympics.

St. Charles West won $2,000 for having the winning video and used it to purchase three iPads with communication applications installed, and a variety of "Just Dance" Wii games, according to a press release.
