St. Charles Students WIll Get A Longer Summer

The first day of school in 2012-13 school year will be five days later than this year.

Class will begin a little later in the summer for students in the St. Charles School District next year.

The first day of school will be Aug. 15, 2012, five days later than the first day of school this year.

The schools will have 10 early release days next year, same number as this year. Students are in class for 176 days, and the last scheduled day of school is May 23. The district has six snow days built into the calendar.

  • Fall break begins Tuesday, Nov. 20 with an early release day, and students return to class Monday, Nov. 26.
  • Winter break will run from Dec. 24-Jan. 7, with students getting out early on Dec. 21, a Friday.
  • Spring break is scheduled for March 25 to April 1.

Board member Donna Towers said the school start was pushed back a few days to give students and families a little more time together.

"When it comes to calendars, there's no pleasing everybody," she said.
