The filing deadline for the Francis Howell School Board has come and gone and nine people will be fighting for three spots.
Current board members Mike Hoehn, Mike Sommer and Mark Lafata are the three incumbents on the board and all decided to run again in the April 5, 2011 election. The three are facing six challengers for the three-year term.
Sommer is the current president of the school board. Hoehn serves as treasurer. Sommer and Hoehn were the first two people to file for the Board openings.
Lafata, the outspoken member of the board who has served for nine years, was the last to throw his name into the race. At the Jan. 6, 2011 meeting, Lafata said he was undecided about running again, but was leaning toward no. He changed his mind.
The other six candidates are:
- Ronnie Johnson
- Eric Seider
- Eric Ewalt
- Burt Biermann
- Gary Miller
- Dale Dickmann* Withdrew.
The Francis Howell School District will host A “Meet the Candidate Night” from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 10 at the Board Room of the District Administration Building, 4545 Central School Road.
