New Principal Hired for Jefferson Intermediate School

Current principal will be Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources in July.

Beth Bartell will be the new principal at Jefferson Intermediate School starting in July.

Current Jefferson Principal Kim Harris was named the district's new Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources last year. The St. Charles Board of Education on Thursday approved Bartell's hiring.

Bartell is currently the principal of Winfield Middle School. She has also served as assistant principal at Winfield Middle School and taught in the Francis Howell School District.

Bartell earned her Bachelor's Degree at Missouri State University and a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from Lindenwood University in 2007. She's currently pursuing an Education Specialist Degree at Missouri Baptist University.

Bartell will be the school's third principal in five years. Harris took over as principal at Jefferson soon after the district reorganized into a different model for middle schools. All students in 5th and 6th grades were moved to Jefferson and all students in 7th and 8th grades were moved to Hardin Middle School.

In her time as principal at Jefferson, Harris put into place several practices to make the transition into a "middle school environment" a little easier for fifth grade students moving from elementary school. Students met together before class began for an all-school assembly for announcements, rule reminders and to offer a sense of unity.
