Hardin Student Wins State Contest

Missouri Youth Adult Alliance chose Marcedes Ash as the grand prize winner for her Red Ribbon Week Poster.

eighth grader Marcedes Ash won the grand prize winner in the Missouri Youth Adult Alliance (MYAA) Red Ribbon Week Poster Contest.

The poster contest was open to all Missouri students. The MYAA chose one student from each grade level as a first-prize winner as well as a grand prize winner. The posters will appear in a calendar that's distributed by MYAA, with the grand prize winner's artwork appearing on the front of the calendar.

Hardin student Taylor Orzel won the first prize for seventh graders.

Angela Bonine, ACT Missouri Project Associate, said the students were able to choose from three slogans that encourage students to live a sober and drug free life.

"We try to start that education early on," she said.

Bonine and Mona Lara, project director for MYAA, planned to be at Hardin on Dec. 7 to recognize Taylor and Marcedes and award Marcedes an iPad. All of the winners receive calendars to hand out to friends and family, Bonine said.
